For those who haven't heard about this before, Relic has been cooperating with Shanda (a Chinese game company) to produce Company of Heroes for Asian market.
Now, let's get a few facts down:
YES, you download/sign up from a site that is full of moonlanguage. However, if you follow the posted guide, you can localize the game and play it in -gasp- English-
You will need to own a copy of Company of Heroes or CoH: Opposing Fronts in order to do so.
1. It is absolutely FREE to play.
2. It is different from your vanilla CoH.
- Persistant MMO element. While the base gameplay is lifted directly from Company of Heroes, they've implemented an army building system. Battles are worth experience and supplies, which then can be used to buy new units, upgrades, abilities, and heroes through the Relic Online lobby that can be used in-game. These stats are persistant, and may only have a certain amount of uses.
Through this system you can customize your army to your playing style, or adapt it to counter an enemy.
- CRAZY hero units. Hero units may look like your regular CoH unit, however, they can inflict some serious damage in the right hands. For example... what if you have a flamethrower engineer who is capable of using camouflage? Or how about a German recon BMW bike that tosses grenades at people? You get the idea!
- (Not implemented yet) The game will eventually feature coop game mode. It will involve letting players to hold the line against AI onsluaght. Judging from the file directory etc, it seems as though Relic will also involve their take of DOTA (yes, that is right... DOTA in ww2) in COHO.
- For the time being, there are only original CoH factions. That means no British or Panzer elites for the time being. However, OF maps are in COHO.
For those who do not know what Company of Heroes is, Company of Heroes is a RTS game made by Relic Entertainment. The game is literally jam packed with awesome. The game features fully destructive enviornment, tactical gameplay, brilliant voice acting/sound fx, and drop dead gorgeous graphics (even for today). I can go on and on about it, but I believe that PA's official CoH thread will do a better job explaining the game than an illiterate doofus like me.
Okay... so if I have convinced you that COHO is worth a try, here is what you have to do to get it.
Pyros of PlanetCoH went through hell to get us this guide. The guide will walk you through all the moon-language sign up procedure. Furthermore, the guide also explains how to localize the Chinese CoHO client into English. So there really is no reason for you to not download this.
The sign up is only available between Chinese time 9 am to 10 pm (on a daily basis).
