Stop being a dick, Quicktime.

So I installed iTunes and unwillingly got stuck with Quicktime. Now any media file will load on a new page in my browser courtesy of Quicktime. Since it's required for iTunes I can't uninstall it. So I did this:

- Open Quicktime player.
- Files -> Preferences.
- Select browser tab.
- Disable Play movies automatically.

This does not work.

Installing Quicktime Alternative also does not work (it does not let me open iTunes).

    Try Preferences>Quicktime Preferences>File Types then uncheck "Streaming - Streaming Movies".

    Are you talking about media files you load from your browser, from a file on your hard drive, or from inside Quicktime? If it's from your browser (and your browser is firefox), you can go to Tools, Options, Applications and you can change which media files are loaded by what, and in what way. If you're talking about from your hard drive, you can change that from Folder Options in the Control Panel on XP.

    Huh. Reinstalling QuickTime magically did the trick. All is well in the world again.
