Dawn of War 2

Co-op campaign details!!
(minor spoilers included, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED)

This is just the beta for now, the real awesome deal will be out Feb 18.

Preorder bonuses (mostly color combos for your armies) differ from place to place. Steam has no preorder bonuses, and Gamespot is no longer taking preorders for some silly reason about Steam...

Want to join in on the Beta fun? you only need 3 things:

1. a computer (system reqs here)

2. a Steam account (site here)

3. a GFWL (aka Xbox Live, aka hotmail) account, which you can get here

Then you just need to DL the beta (which should be in your Games tab in Steam) launch the game, log in your GFWL ID, and enjoy!!

If your want to play with the rest of us, get on the PA vent and let us know! Always new groups starting!

All you need to do is hang out in one of the DoW2 channels and put a comment next to your name that says your looking for people to play with...

...we have to do this since friend of a friend doesn't work for GFWL...

Also, if you want to avoid have to watch the intro again, close the game as soon as you get in, if you crash before doing this, you have to watch the whole thing again...

Launch the beta, go to Game History (under Multiplayer) find the replays tab, and double-click the replay. There are no names, but you can see the game data(map, players, game type) by clicking on one of the replays.

Current Change List

Increased the chances for melee sync-kills to occur.
Fixed an issue with all units gaining experience from kills. Only units that fight will gain experience. Heroes will still gain experience just by being near the fighting.
All infantry weapon damage reduced by 15% with the exception of anti-vehicle, sniper and artillery weapons.
All heroes health reduced by 10% to reflect global damage change.
Some melee units reduced in health by 10%.
Suppression units' damage at long range reduced, suppression against cover reduced a little.
melee_heavy damage to vehicle reduced to 0.5, from 1. Damage against building reduced to 0.5, from 1.
power_weapons_pvp damage to vehicle reduced to 0.15, from 0.25.
Plasma damage vs vehicles increased to .2 from .15
Flamer damage vs garrison increased to 3.5 from 2.5, vs heavy cover to 2.5 from 2.
Increased grenade damage modifier to garrison cover to 1.25 from 1.
Reduced grenade pvp damage modifier against generators to 1 from 1.5.
All vehicle deaths now generate heavy cover.
Melee special attacks no longer knockdown retreating units.
Increased uncapture time for requisition and power points to 15 seconds, from 10.
HQ health decreased to 10,000, from 15,000.
Requisition points are now updated to use a new system. Points are worth +10 upon capture, but this value now increases by +5 every 15 seconds up to a maximum of +35. When uncaptured, this value resets to +10.
Requisition points will no longer be reduced in resource rate in larger games.


Space Marines

Avatar and Carnifex are no longer instantly killed by drop pods.
Fixed an issue with space marine base turrets being able to rotate 360 degrees.


Tactical Squad

Missile Launcher reload time reduced to 6 seconds, from 8. Accuracy against large targets increased to 1, from 0.75. Damage reduced to 160, from 175.
Sergeant cost increased to 75/25 from 50/25.
Fixed an issue the with tactical marine sergeant having a shorter range than the rest of the squad which would cause him to run up to the enemy.
Plasma gun damage increased from 65 to 90.
Flamer damage increased from 12 to 14.
Tactical Marine HP increased from 300 to 350.
And They Shall Know No Fear damage reduction modifier reduced to 0.6, from 0.5. Knockback chance decreased to 50%, from 100%. Damage price increased to 1800, from 1200.


Dreadnought

Dreadnought assault cannon upgrade requisition cost increased to 100, from 45


Terminators

Terminator zeal cost reduced to 700, from 900.
Assault terminator zeal cost reduced to 700, from 900.


Scout Squad

Sniper rifle cost changed to 150/35 from 100/60, damage increased to 170 from 150.
Shotgun knockdown chance reduced to 15%, from 25%.
Infiltrate energy drain increased to 1.5/sec, from 1/sec.
Scout Sergeant detection radius set to 30.
Fixed a bug that was causing Frag Grenades to deal far less damage than intended.
Leader cost increased to 60/25 from 50/25
Fixed an issue with Scouts dealing more melee damage than they should have been.


Techmarine

Techmarine Heavy Bolter turret damage reduced to match the other turrets.


Assault Marines

Melta bomb fixed to affect Carnifex mobility.
Fixed an issue that caused Meltabombs to have a chance to miss their target.
Assault Marine Sergeant cost increased to 100/25 from 50/25
Assault Marine Sergeant health increased to 440, from 320.
Jump energy cost increased to 70, from 55.


Force Commander

Force commander teleporter pack armor req cost increased to 100.

Fixed an issue with the Heal ability not being able to target Terminators.

Webway gate psychic might cost increased to 125 from 90.
Fixed an issue with the Fleet of Foot tool tip not saying that it causes a damage reduction.
Eldritch storm crater now generates light cover.


Guardians

Shuriken Catapult damage decreased to 12, from 14.
Warlock Leader cost increased to 65/15, from 50/15.


Howling Banshees

Banshee War Shout radius reduced to 8, from 15 and will no longer affect retreating units.

    Wall o text incoming.
    Having just started off, I just had an incredibly fun match in 3v3. I took the Techmarine and then had two orc team mates against an opposing team of space marines who was another Techmarine and Apoc, with Eldar as the third.

    I managed to keep my third of the map clear through the start while my teammates pushed at the lower half of the map. They slowly started getting pushed back by the Eldar weapons platforms and a shit ton of Dreadnaughts (like good lord two or three at a time) so I manned up some tac marines with launchers and headed down there. Those grenade things the techs have that slow vehicles down managed to hold them down long enough for my marines to blast them to pieces.

    The there was some huge yellow Eldar guy running around shooting my guys along with a bunch of weapons platforms so I had to retreat. I'd set up a bunch of turrets that managed to keep them pinned down long enough to reinforce my dudes and head back out when I had enough zeal to bring in a venerable dreadnaught. I head back down south and see that the huge walker dude now had a couple of wide bodied tank things hanging around with him (I assume these are the bright lances since they were shooting beams) and dropped my dreadnaught right next to them where he cleared house. I need to shift him up north at that point because the enemy techmarine is running around with three tac squads causing havoc and I only had a couple of suppression squads up there.

    Several enemy dreadnoughts come around the corner at this point and my team mates orcs tied them up while my tac squads and tech marine kill enough of them though to let me bring in a squad of Terminators. I check the weapons list and see an option for back mounted rocket launchers so I go for those. The first barrage trashes the remaining dreadnaught and the shiny new predator that just came around the corner and with the help of a beacon built by the tech marine single handedly shores up defense at that point for 5 minutes just from the teleporter/barrages when anything heavy comes round the corner.

    TLDR: Holy mother of god the terminator rocket packs do some damage.

    I am LOVING the new patch.

    I tell you what, there is NOTHING more exciting than playing a 3v3 and knowing there's a 50% chance someone is going to have a client freeze and thus completely ruin the game.

    I mean, I can't speak for everyone but I LOVE knowing that 50% of the time I play DoW2 it's going to be complete fucking ass because of the client stability.

    I just played a game against Akira. I was excited when I saw he was in my lane on the desert map. Figured we'd have some good back and forth fighting.

    It turns out he just planned on heavy bolter creeping - making that lane non-stop boring until I hit T2.

    Once my tyranid ally stopped by with his "lol, wut heavy bolter" jumping guys, it wasn't a problem though.

    Wickedkarma, Exerex, and I just went on a little tear and I got get all chiseled jaw and frosted tips up in the face of a bunch of eldar and 'nids and all of our games were undeniably awesome. Crap patch or not, I still like the game. 8-)

    If you want the nerdy explanation, Black Templars usually have half-robes covering their chest and hanging down like that, so presumably when the Black Templar got entombed in the Dreadnought he kept wearing it. Alternately, Titans often hang banners of battle victories in that manner so it may be mimicking that or at least doing it for the same reason.

    Oh and sorry for beating you in that game, my bad for expecting you to use the 2-3 ways SM can counter that in T1.

    is anyone else unable to play 3v3 just because they don't like the idea of different races teaming up? that isn't just a terrible joke. i've just never liked enemies on the same side.
