What ruined the Transformer movie for me was the fact that they all transformed into real world products. Totally jarring to the flow of the movie.

that's what ruined that movie for you?

Bumblebee's non-stop sarcastic comments really didn't help anything. But primarily it was the robots turning into real earth vehicles.

Bumblebee didn't talk until the end in the 2007 movie. I think you mean JAZZ

I think you have problems detecting sarcasm.

Robots have problems with sarcasm, do you turn into a motorcycle, or a blender perhaps?

Man, I could tell you were being sarcastic about the real vehicles part.

They do need to stop it with the self-referential product placement jokes, though. They've already done it three times and it's not like it was that original to begin with.

Yeah it's fucking annoying. "Hey guys, we're making it blatant so that makes it OK to have bullshit product placement to begin with!"

    Yes, this, exactly.

I dunno, they get away with it because it's funny

In the linked video it was funny. The Valentines' Day episode opening had nothing resembling humor, just 30 seconds of "these desserts are so great."

    Jack: These McFlurrys are amazing!
Elisa: I know. The soft swirl of vanilla and the hard crunch of candy and cookies. You’d think they’d fight each other, but no, together they are perfecto.
Jack: Some would say that describes us...
Elisa: Who would say such a crazy thing?! We are us. Let a McFlurry be what it is; the world’s greatest desert!

And then Jack went on to describe the real "world's greatest desert". Seriously making a mountain out of a molehill here...

Defender, you really hate advertisements don't you?

Because I remember you complaining about the "commercial" in Talladega Nights.

Which is a movie about NASCAR... which basically is glorified advertising.

Has anyone bothered noting that the McFlurry is an obvious contrast to Jack's thousand dollar dessert? And that their McFlurries are what brought them together despite their differences? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

anyone gettin' all mad about product placement in 30 Rock is just dumb

it's a reoccuring joke they do throughout the series. they don't get money for doing it. just because you didn't find it funny doesn't mean the show is some corporate advertisement machine

some are paid and some aren't, but the show itself has always been a meta-commentary on television (especially nbc) so obviously they're going to make jokes about it

I like that the real product placement, particularly the Apple one is the one they don't make a fuss over. Yeah Jack has a new imac in his office and they all use iPhones, but they don't actually mention it once.

Would they not have used iphones if apple didn't pay them?

That seems mysterious. I mean maybe they should just turn in their yuppie cards.

I'm assuming not since they previously used just random phones and then the verizon gag.
again, not really caring seeing as though it's actually funny.

I'm okay with the McFlurry bit if the writers did it just 'cause they thought it'd be funny, not because they were paid. But I don't see any other reason for them to repeat the Verizon/Bee Movie "Oh look we're doing product placement" joke unless they're getting paid.

They also push some pretty left (meaning "Democratic Party") views. It's just kind of obnoxious.

Also, to clear this up, just because product placement is obvious does not mean that it isn't product placement. Putting a real product on camera and pointing the logo at the viewer's face actually works, and "oh yeah right like it's mind-controlling me into rushing out and buying something" isn't a valid counterpoint. If it were, then the actual not-in-the-show commercials wouldn't be effective and nobody would run them.

instead you are raving about how the show has lost all integrity because you did not like a single joke out of many they've done about product placement. yeah the joke ended up falling flat but you are going on and on about how the show is dead to you because of that one joke

    you are being silly

The McFlurry wasn't without a point. It was a plot device in the episode, and was intentionally used because A: the writers like it and B: it's amusing to see a high powered executive having a serious discussion about a cheap desert from McDonald's. It's not supposed to be some sort of direct, laugh out loud pun. The amusement is in the absurdity of the situation. This is not something new. 30 Rock has had quite a few scenes like that. If you don't find it funny or don't get it then maybe it isn't the show for you.

It's not really this, it was the "oh god, they did a McFlurry product placement thing like 5 minutes in? Oh god how awful" when like, it's a pretty known thing that 30 rock does this all the time. Never mind whether or not it's intentional. it was just funny that it seemed like you were trying to call it out on something everyone is already aware of.

"Oh god, Penny Arcade did a WoW comic?"
"I watched CSI, you know the use of technology was somewhat exaggerated, right?"

I've seen them do shit with products before, but I guess this was the time for me when it didn't simply stop being funny, but stopped looking like humor was even the intent.
