What is wrong with my GTAIV+expansion, and how do I fix it?

I downloaded The Lost and Damned on its release day. All's going well for a few days, then a couple hours into a session it froze. I didn't freak; this happens every once in a while on my 360, I had just saved, and I was about to stop playing anyway. Then the next time I power up it works for a while, then the first time I go to save I get a disc read error as the save screen is loading. Tonight I give 'er another shot and I get two disc read errors on the game's initial load. At this point I think to boil the disc. It was hardly damaged or dirty at all, but neither was my Halo disc that also got a DRE in the same spot and boiling fixed that. But nope, I boiled it and it still DREs on the initial load.

So... what's wrong here, and what can I do about it?

    sounds kinda strange.

I wonder if it is the downloaded game content itself which is the problem, or perhaps it is the system itself...? It sounds like the early signs of a dying Xbox.

Best to check the regular GTA4 game and your other games, play them, try saving and see what happens. Make sure it is the expansion game. I'm sure there are call service hotlines to microsoft or rockstar from whichever country you're in.

Yeah, I've had a couple 360s poop out on me and this definitely has me nervous.

I have loaded and saved a couple other games since and they've worked perfectly fine.

What sucks is the way GTAIV works, you pop the disc in and it loads your most recent save (in this case, one from the expansion) automatically. There's no way to load a different save until you've loaded initially, so I ,have no way of playing GTAIV proper.

Have you tried installing GTA4 onto the hard drive?

    I hadn't even thought of it. It's worth a shot. I only have a 20gb though and it's like 3/4 full

If you delete TLAD from your hard drive you should be able to load up IV and save. Then redownload TLAD and you'll be able to start a new game or whatever.
