A magician gives you a ring that, when worn, will let you see the world as it truly is.
However, the ring will never leave your finger, and you will be unable to ever describe to another living person what you see.

I dont think she is bland or overrated. I think you are mistaking Harry Potter for being bad when it is quite literally not for you.

She has written books that target a specific audience and that audience loves it. Her success is not some manufactured publicist stunt it is a result of careful and well written books.

Now, I would agree with you broadly that I dont enjoy Harry Potter. But that doesnt make her a bad writer. What distinguishes between Meyer and Rowling is that while they have both achieved that level of market penetration that most writers aspire to, the latter has also achieved critical acclaim too. Meyer has been almost universally panned as a hack, and her books only appeal thematically rather than in a literary sense.

It's really a case of Ridley Scott versus Tony Scott. Both are successful, and lord knows each have had their high points (Alien, Top Gun) but one is significantly more respected than the other by his peers and in the end that is what differentiates between a successful writer and a good writer.

Either way, I'm not saying you're wrong. Just that I think by saying Rowling is even in the same league as Meyer is incredibly insulting to her, because Stephanie Meyer is doing damage to the good work that Rowling has built up among the literary youth. If you were 12 when Harry Potter started you're now about 20 or so. The age where the themes of Twilight like lust and preposterous Vampire tooth cesareans appeal to you. It is merely a shame that the method of her writing is so abysmal and so painfully Mary Sue that noone takes her seriously at all.

There's some sort of Stephenie Meyer Book Quote of the Day on this TwilightMoms page.
Jacob: “I’ll kill you myself! I’ll do it now!”
Carlisle: “I’ve seen vampire venom work miracles, but there are conditions that even venom cannot overcome.”
Edward: “You look so guilty—like you’ve committed a crime.”

These are the highlights of the books?

Yeah, Rowling definitely doesn't deserve to be painted with the same brush as Meyer.

I mean, my favorite young person's fantasy series is still the Chronicles of Narnia, and C.S. Lewis definitely was not at his best writing those.

There was this 30-something lady on my morning bus commute that was reading the twilight books.

She's not on the bus anymore so it's a fair assumption that she got laid off.

Well see airking lots of companies have been cutting positions, which has been steadily reducing ridership on the bus routes so when a regular rider stops showing up it's a reasonable assumption.

He's just jealous that no one reads his books and movies/TV shows are not made from them.

Also, while I LOVE Harry Potter, I can agree that Rowling isn't the best writer in the technical sense. She is far more creative and puts FAR more thought into her books than Meyers, though. Rowling created a whole universe with enough history to fill a book, Meyers just plopped pretty vampires into a modern setting and essentially wrote a trashy romance novel.

King might as well write notes for his stories on spare $100 bills he has lying around his house

he certainly has enough of them

but no, he's never written anything near as successful as these books
