Before I write anything else, let me say that I have called my doctor and am waiting to see if he can see me today.
But in the meantime ...
I woke up this morning with a sever pain on the right side of my face. It also seems to be a little swollen. It starts right about mid-ear and pretty much follows my jaw line down to my neck.
It doesn't hurt when I clench my teeth, so I don't think it's TMJ or sore jaw muscles.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions on making it not hurt?
I ask because you could be experiencing trismus, or the early stages of lockjaw (if you've come into contact with a tetanus bacterium).
I'm 28. I have had teeth grinding problems before, but the pain from that is distinct from this. With clenching/grinding teeth, the pain would be intense when I bit down hard. But now, that doesn't hurt.
I guess it could maybe be an infection in my back gums? It just seems to cover a large area.
i supose it could be in a extream case and abscess. in a back tooth or somthing. that can cause jaw teeth neck to hurt.
but that would hurt alot

Well it does hurt a good bit! Not totally agonizing pain, but it's painful enough to be distracting.
I do have a history of sinus infections, but this isn't anywhere except around my jawline.
I go to the doctor soon, so I'll post what he says. Thanks for the help!

If it was upper jaw, I'd say sinus infection. I have gone to my dentist with oh-so-many of those...
If it's lower jaw... it's probably time for a checkup. My guess would be gum problems.

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn
I'm gonna guess ear infection. Doc will be able to tell you, though.
You win a prize! After blood work, etc., the doctor said it seems like a viral ear infection. The gland that is swelling up is the parotid gland. So now I pretty much have to wait it out with some pain medication.
Yeah, jaw pain on one side of your face that doesn't get worse when you bite down is generally because of that. There's a nerve that runs from your ear down through your jaw that gets all fucked up by ear infections. Sucks a lot.
