Occasionally I do a little online banking (Bank of America) and check out my history (deposits, purchases, withdrawals, etc.) just to see my balance and what I've been up to. Well this morning I did this and noticed a $10 checkcard charge made on 3/13 for MYFAX. I couldn't remember making any $10 dollar transactions like that on Friday, and after a moments Googling, realized that MYFAX referred to MyFax, an online fax-to-email service (or something)
Now I know for certain this wasn't me, and of course I immediately thought "oh fuck someone has my credit card number", but in reality I have no idea how this would happen; the only thing I EVER use my card for are ATM withdrawals, paying for stuff at brick and mortar stores (groceries, games, whatever), and reputable online stores (amazon, newegg, that sort of thing). Also, if someone DID get my card number, I'm suprised that, since last Friday, they apparently only used it to sign up for a monthly subscription at myfax.com of all things
Still, I know it's possible that someone somehow managed to get my number, and I'd like some input on where to go next. Should my first step be to call up customer service over at MyFax and deal with things on their end? Or cut out the middle man and go right to Bank of America to dispute the charge?
