My Terrible Luck Strikes Again? [Computer Help] [Solved]

Okay, so, as as introduction, this is my life:

20080903.jpg

I don't know how I do it, but everything technology wise breaks around me. Constantly.

Anyways, getting to what the problem is this time, my computer was working fine yesterday. Not a hiccup at all. I got off around 1, go to get on around 12 today. It posts correctly (I think that's the term? It beeped or whatever.) and it got to the windows loading screen.

The bar was moving like normal, then it started to kind of hiccup. It wouldn't go past it after like, 10 minutes. So, I restarted and tried to start the computer in "Last Known Good Configuration". That didn't work either. Now I'm in Safe Mode (With Networking, obviously) and having my Anti-Virus scan the entire computer to make sure something's not infected or whatever, but I don't even know what will come of this route. I actually have to leave, though, and after trying to google a solution for 15 minutes without success, I came back here. I technically haven't ruled anything out, but I doubt it'd be corrupted something-or-other because it was working fine yesterday? Could be wrong, though.

If you still have internet connectivity in safe mode, download and install MalwareBytes and Superantispyware, both are available on download.com - after they're downloaded, run a quick scan on each and see if they pick anything up.

If your computer is attempting to load the operating system and isn't able to, the majority of the time it's a virus, but it could also be a hard drive issue. Do you use any programs like Limewire or Frostwire? If so, the likelyhood of it being something virus related greatly increases.

As far as it being fine last night and having issues today, both potential problems(virus/trojan or hard drive) could be there and not give you problems one minute and cause severe issues the next, so who knows!

I remember having something like this going on with a computer a while back. Wound up being a hard drive problem. When it started, it would only happen once in a while and I could still get the computer to boot sometimes. Then it got worse and the computer was done. The hard drive problem I believe was caused by my cheap power supply going bad and slowly ruining the rest of my components. Hard drive went first, then the motherboard.

I've had something similar to this happen recently. The loading screen would come up, but the loading bar would just keep scrolling forever. Some googling told me to try clearing the CMOS, and that worked great, so that might be worth a shot.

Do you have an external HDD? For some reason, when I have my external turned on, Windows won't load past that screen for me, the bar will just scroll and scroll.

Seconding the external HHD thing. My computer does this with my 1TB drive or my iPod.

On a side note, if electronic stuff breaks down around you all the time I bet if you were to get tested you'd find your molecules are naturally aligned the same way.

I had a friend in college who, I kid you not, couldnt wear digital watches or they would crash. If you put your mobile phone on his head, it lost all signal (might crash depending on make). His laptop would do ungodly things if used on his lap long enough. While we all thought it was funny as hell he went to get himself checked out and their diagnosis was the above, he actually generates a field like a bar magnet :D

I'm currently downloading and using Malware Bytes and SuperAntiSpyware. I don't have an external hard drive, but I do have an iPod. It wasn't/isn't plugged in though. How would I go about clearing my CMOS?

Edit: SuperAntiSpyware is saying that the system administrator has settings that prevent it's installation. I'm the Admin though. Weird? Malware is scanning at the moment, however.

Edit2: Malware finished. Found 13 stuff. This is what it found:
    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.34

So, am I probably good? Guess it couldn't hurt to try.

Yay! I love you guys. You're my best friends and stuff. I don't know why I'm so clueless as to how to fix things. :(

    Thanks again!

So that worked? If so, go in to your user account settings and make sure you have administrator access and go ahead and install superantispyware, just incase it happens again.

It must have just been Safe Mode blocking it, because it installed fine now!
