Specifically, should I get the third or fourth edition?
I've read that the fourth edition has some flaws that the third edition does not, and I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some first hand advice with this. Like, do the pieces fit well together in the newer edition? I read on Amazon that they sometimes do not. And are the hexes really too glossy and flimsy? Any other criticisms?
Anywho, from what I've read its a great game, and I look forward to getting it either way.
I like the third edition better, but thats just because thats the first board I played on. However, I have two friends with 4th edition, and theres nothing wrong with it. The pieces do seem a bit more flimsy, but thats probably just me.
One thing to consider though is: do you plan on buying the expansions? I got lucky and found all the expansions (seafarers and cities&knights with their 5-6 player extensions) on ebay about a year ago, but it was sorta expensive and took awhile. If you get the 4th edition, you will be able to expand your game much easier, without mismatching pieces.
