re Gap commercial: the Daft Punk guys are ridiculously stylish outside of that commercial, the whole Canadian-tuxedo get-up doesn't seem right.

One of my favorite DJs is Pressha. He did an hour long live set on the radio a bit ago, and it is freaking brilliant.

Big file, but stream it if it you can.

So great. There is just one section that I truly dislike, and skip over, and for an hour long set, I think that is pretty decent.

Like a good UGH! Right square in the face.

    Seconded.

Also Interstella 5555 is probably the best way to introduce yourself to Daft Punk, and plenty of their best songs are right on Discovery anyway.

I dunno, I listened to Discovery first, and then one of my friends said, "Hey, you know that there's a movie to go with that?" Then we rented than movie.

It was mentioned, but seriously, dudes.

    http://www.najle.com/idaft/

The day there is one of those for Technologic is the day I cease to be anything but attached to the computer for, like a week. (Maybe an exaggeration.)

But man. Daft Punk is so, so, so wonderful. The Encore in Alive 2007 is so tits. When the beat for One More Time kicks in, man, if you're not so hyped every time that happens, something is -wrong- with you.

I just managed to see Interstella 5555 on the 5th. It was such an awesome birthday because of that and a few other things. I didn't know they did something for every song. I'd just seen the first four on Cartoon Network of all places when I was a kid, and figured that's all that had been done. And somebody was like "No, dude. Here. It's on youtube. Watch it." and I did, and it was glorious. I'd agree that Discovery is the most approachable way to get into Daft Punk, but also would say that it would be better to hear the album first and -then- watch it, honestly. There's a little more of an excitement to seeing it when you know what's coming music-wise and wondering how it's going to shape up.

Personally, I think this was their best song.

Like most techno music, Daft Punk has a bunch of those terrible songs that you should never listen to mixed in with the decent songs.

But i've been listening since the dog.

This is why I really don't like Daft Punk very much, and why I feel like they get WAY too much credit. They have a lot of horrible fucking shit in their catalog. So what does that mean? They just got lucky a couple times and made a couple good tracks?

You want good french dance music, you need Justice and nothing else. The only track that Justice has ever done that sucked was The Party, and that's only because Uffy is a fucking cunt who has to dribble her festering juices all over anything good that comes out of the Ed Banger crew.

edit: by the way, SebAstian's remix of this thread's namesake is one of the greatest tunes.

I should be just lurking as usual, but I have to say that I am a big fan of Daft Punk, even if a couple songs are shitty. Seeing their amazing live performance will have almost anyone forgive the bad tracks I think. Doing so on ecstasy was one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. I would highly recommend it whenever they come around again.

They get a lot of credit because they pioneered or at least brought a lot of elements used extensively in French House to the mainstream. Around The World's drumline is pretty much a staple of a lot of electro-house and when they adapt their stuff for a more 'four to the floor' traditional dance format, it holds up quite well.
