Getting rid of sticky slime

I currently have an annoying amount of mucas sticking in the back of my throat which is causing me to cough like an angry rottweiler. I tried to drink, gargle, gurgle, spitting, sticking my finger in my throat, but the only thing it accomplishes are staring faces. Anyone know of practical remedies aside from antibiotics that'll stop me from embarrassing myself any further?

What's your diet like? Cutting down on dairy products and chocolate will significantly decrease how sticky the mucus in your throat is.

I've been avoiding anything with sugar. I suppose soy sauce, oranges and various spices aren't exactly helpful to my cause. Usually I mix some honey with water to soothe the throat but I'm out of honey.

how long has this been going on? Are you sure it isn't caused by a cold of some type?

About a week and a half. I'm pretty sure it's post nasal drip.

I have good luck with lemon or peppermint tea, when you did honey with water was it hot water?
