I'm just curious what size the wall scroll is. I have some nice wall scrolls that are the size of posters, but I remember the Wind Waker scroll was tiny.
I remember reading somewhere that it was about 14.5" x 67" and not a true wall scroll.
It's more of a fold-out poster than any scroll I can think of. It's got the character concept art one set of panels, and the actual in-game art for all the monsters and NPCs on the reverse set of panels. It's not a cloth decoration like your typical "Japanese anime/game wall scroll", but it's at least printed on some decently heavy paper.
Just got an e-mail that I'll be receiving a review copy of this soon. I'm looking forward to this one, and hopefully it won't have the same problems that Odin Sphere did (fight the same bosses a hundred times, each one stupidly harder than the last). Wasn't a big fan of the shift into the ultra-dark story either, but whatever.
Just got home with my copy and I'm going to start playing Momohime's campaign now. Game is very, very pretty. Normal mode seems a little too easy thus far. Hopefully it'll start kicking my ass really soon.
PCs aren't the only systems to feature HD visuals.
But Ninendo is the only system to not feature it.
Many games don't even render their games at 720p on consoles. Meanwhile PC's can render theirs at 1080p or higher with more AA and sometimes even better visual effects(DX10/PhysX). Not to mention 2D upscales much better than 3D so the gap between most games on consoles and their PC counterparts is much larger than this would have been.

All that's really irrelevant in this case, because anything is better than 480p through component.
You're the one that brought up wishing it would be done in a higher resolution I simply brought counterpoint that wishing every game would be done on PC in CryEngine 3 would be the obvious criticism of just about every console game ever made.

I still play Genesis games, so not having HD is hardly a deal breaker for me.
Also, this 'wallscroll' is more of a giant mini artbook, and it's quite nice.

I'm just going to take a shot here, but what I think he meant was that some people might complain that the game's sprites would have benefited being shown at a higher resolution. It has nothing to do with graphical capabilities. It's just a matter of picture quality. Honestly I don't give a shit. I just want to play the game.
Edit: Also, having seen it at E3, I can say that 480p is definitely appreciated over fucking 480i. That shit needs to go.

My point is I can go into any thread about any game that isn't Crysis and make that same statement and that the gap would be even bigger between console/PC given that there would not just be a higher resolution but added visual effects and higher AA as well. A 2D game gains the least from going to better hardware. Saying it's the "obvious criticism" is just troll material. And his "I won't say but I'll say it" was also a heaping pile of bullshit.

While I understand why you'd respond to him, you're also looking at this from the wrong perspective. It has nothing to do with technical graphics which is what I would call the Cryengine. Simply put it's just how clean the image looks. If the developers make high resolution sprites and have to be restrained to a lower resolution, it's going to show. They could be the best looking sprites ever and they still look fugly if they are seen at a much lower resolution than they were made in.
I'll just go ahead and say that this game looks amazing as is already. Vanillaware made sure they got the most they could out of the Wii's processing power.

Look, I'm not saying I want all games to reach this Crysis, super HDx4 resolution like you're saying. I'm saying that two of the three consoles, at the bare minimum, are outputting in HD. Upscaled or not, it looks far and away better than the Wii's component 480p output. This isn't a debate. Even the director of this game mentioned something about wishing it was in HD. It would look better, simple as that.
I'm not saying "let's make this good looking game the best that it possibly can", I'm saying "why hold back this game from looking really good?".

The director also said that developing for the HD consoles was out of their price range. Its going to tank regardless, but they are going to lose substantially less money than some other scenarios.
Its nice to want things you cant have, but 2 of the 3 console makers are also out billions this cycle alone, with predominantly western development consolidating and going out of business at an unprecedented rate.

Not sure if this was already posted, but Ignition and Nintendo are partnering and hosting a launch party at the NYC Nintendo World Store tomorrow. Not only are they changing the NWS atmosphere to a Japanese one, but they're also releasing the game early and packaging special gifts such t-shirts and art scrolls.
If you haven't preordered the game and happen to live in or near NYC, this could be a good option.

At first I was thinking I should have gone with Normal, but Hard is more fun. Normal would have been a joke.
Maybe it's because I finished Odin Sphere. :P
Doing Momohime's campaign. I love the music. More Sakimoto = always good.
Just picked this game up and it's pretty fun. Once I get used to the controls I'll probably switch it to hard. The movement is incredibly touchy though for my tastes. For the first boss of Momohime's campaign I ran into the fire more than once due to moving too far. I had to just barely tap it to not run into damage. Game is so pretty though. If only my stupid widescreen TV would let the Wii fill it out in widescreen mode, but nooooo the Wii has to not recognize that the TV is always in widescreen. There is no setting for me to switch you dumb system!
Agree about movement, it could be tighter. Also, anyone find it mildly irritating that you can't attack when there aren't enemies on the screen? I just wanna slash around and practice some potential combos.

Yeah, all it does is scrunch up the screen into the 4:3 window :?. I've tried everything, including calling the TV manufacturer and Nintendo. It just won't happen. The TV won't recognize the Wii is set to widescreen, and the Wii won't recognize the TV is always widescreen and I can't change any settings. Thankfully the 360 and PS3 fill up the whole screen to make up for the Wii's incompetence.

Odd, mine's showing in widescreen. Then again, I have the TV set to that. :P
I just killed the third boss. It was insane, but the repetition forced me to develop a strong strategy.
It's like Odin Sphere without the lag. And this game's storytelling takes it up a notch in the theatrical category.
Shame about there being no dub, as Odin Sphere had a very good one(better than the Japanese VA IMO), but this is good enough that I can deal.

The TV does not recognize if the Wii is set to widescreen or not as it can't; they're both 480p signals
The Wii does not recognize the TV is widescreen or not because it has no way of getting that information at all
You have to set the Wii to widescreen in the options and set your TV to widescreen, is your TV not allowing this?

Cleared Momohime (Shura) in 10 hours flat. Going back in for Kisuke, then grinding both for the alternate/real endings.
-Not a very compelling story so far.
