Hell, half the eggs aren't even cleverly hidden. They're just in a random, already access room lying around; unlike the ones in
Sharkfood Island, Gobi's Valley and in the cellar of Mad Monster Mansion
which are at least located in previously unaccessable parts of the level.

I think I actually got the two in Sharkfood island and mad monster mansion. I can't remember for the life of me if I got the Gobi's Island one.

BK has never been short of breaking the fourth wall. (I mean, that's the ENTIRE PLOT of Nuts and Bolts.) Hell, the first time you talk to Mumbo he says he's "the best shaman in the whole game"

Yeah, the opening is pretty long. And wow at how shitty the non-FPS aiming controls are. Holy fuck.

Anywho, if you go into help and options (which I did to fidget with the y-axis settings) there's an entire list of where all the jiggies are located if you get stuck. Kinda cool.

    So, first impressions:

    - Not only is the N64 still around, Bottle's kid is still holding a DK doll. JFG poster is back and in extremely hi-res. So not one but two Nintendo trademarks are still in here. They didn't even null out DK's tie or anything.

    - ugh they made the FPS default Halo controls. Deathmatch 'classic' controls use the face buttons instead of the right stick, so they can't even implement Legacy correctly. Minus points for 4J on that one.

    - framerate is solid a buttery smooth, at the cost of a lot of real time lighting effects. I guess that's how they pulled it off, because you can't emulate faster than the original console without breaking the rest of the game.

If you played Tooie before, it's worth it to buy it again just for the solid framerate.

Doesn't Rare own JFG along with PD, Blast Corps, Conker etc? Keeping the DK references is very strange, though.

I thought the DK thing was strange as well. Man I wish Conker's BFD would get a XBLA treatment with LIVE multiplayer, I have very fond memories of the multiplayer.

Also, off topic, but APZonerunner, is that your band in your signature? Clicked the link out of curiosity and I am really liking it.

BFD will get an Xbox Originals release sooner or later as it's BC, I'm sure. And yes, it is. On a Banjo-related note, Grant Kirkhope added us on MySpace ages back and sent us a really nice message. Promised we'd do a Banjo track. One day...

Some of the answers in Grunty's Furnace Fun in the original BK for Live had Donkey Kong references in them, so seeing DK back in this game isn't too big a surprise. Rare and Nintendo still have a pretty good relationship; they kept doing Donkey Kong Country ports for them long after Rare was bought by Microsoft.

And I can't wait to play B-T's final boss again. So absurd, so epic.

The single player is worth it, though. It's still fucking gorgeous and gives most games THIS GEN a run for their money, and the Xbox remake removed a lot of the terrible controlling ridiculously hard sections from the original.

So I'm replaying BK to grab the mystery eggs, and I came across a weird glitch. In Bubblegoop Swamp there's a section where there's a punch of huts on high platforms, and at the base of the platforms are smaller platforms with stuff underneath 'em. The idea is that youre supposed to grab the wading boots and collect 'em, but the game won't let me walk under the platforms. I'v even tried it without wading boots and I can't get it to work. Any idea on if I can fix this?

Aren't you supposed to be the crocodile for those? That's if they're what I think they are. Alternatively, I think a beak.... bomb attack should grab them if they're notes you need. Whatever the butt stomp move from mario equivalent is called. It should clip through the platform and grab them.

I'm gonna grab Tooie this weekend I think. I downloaded the Trial. Man I forgot how dark it is compared to the original game.

I think I'm gonna grab $25 worth of points and get Duke Nukem 3D as well. I've been playing Doom for the last hour or so and I'm in a classic shooter mood.

I'm looking forward to Tooie. I only played it through once, maybe twice, so I don't remember it very well, as opposed to Kazooie where I could almost play it with my eyes closed (except for that crocodile part in Bubblegoop Swamp apparently!). It'll almost be like playing it fresh.

Is Tooie extremely loud to anyone else? I pointed this out to Beeb and he noticed it too. Especially when you're using one of Mumbo's spells.

My theory is that since they disabled the settings menu, they're letting the 360 set the options. And they make the game default to 5.1 mode, and the 360 downmixing it to stereo makes it overly loud.

    Yes.
Instead of unlocking the items by finding the eggs inside of N64 carts in Tooie in Heggie's house, you need to collect the eggs in Kazooie first.

This also makes the split-up pad in Heggie's uselesss now.

But if you give her all the items...
she gives you a Stop and Swop II item, and the N64 carts now give out Gold Silver and Bronze eggs, which are also now "Stop and Swop II".

Nothing as of now. Kazooie makes a crack that maybe we'll figure out what they're for on their "20th birthday." Banjo replies that he hopes Banjo 4 comes out faster than that.

That link a few posts back that spilled the beans on the stuff said that there's also text buried in the game that mentions Nuts and Bolts and DLC. Just that it doesn't actually appear in-game. Or at least not in a way anybody has found yet.

Either way, I thought the Stop n Swop II was a bit of a clever joke. In a kind of groaner, "Oh brother" sort of way. Here's hoping it really doesn't take another 10 years to pay off.

Also, my review of Tooie so far:

    Solid emulation.

Extremely crap mangling of the controls. It's not even consistent with BKXBLA. And who is the genius that thought it would be a good idea to un-invert the flying and swimming controls (also inconsistent with BKXBLA). I can't even thing of a single modern game that comes with the flying controls as non-inverted by default.

I'm seriously expecting a patch to fix up the controls soon.
