MY girlfriend needs a digital camera for casual use. She's thinking around the $200 price range. She says she wants a "nice little camera". I know nothing about cameras and I wouldj ust buy one at random, but that could led to buying a bad brand.

So what do you guys suggest? She usually takes pictures when she goes out to parties and social events.

Kodak has a nice digital camera selection. They're not the most technical ones you can get, but for casual picture taking like you described they are great. In fact, I'm getting my Dad one for Christmas, an upgrade from an older Kodak DC I got him.

The best thing about Kodak is that its very good for people who don't know a lot about computers. If it has the camera dock, you just put it on there and push the button, and with the Kodak easyshare software you can easily enhance and play with the pictures.

This is the camera I was looking at for my Dad, for reference:
    6 MP for $160

They even have 5 MP for around 100 bucks.

Personally, I have a Sony Cybershot 6.0 MP that I thought was really great, but dang it if I get a bunch of blurry photos with it. Half of the pictures I took in Europe were bad, even when I used to capture feature to minimize blur and motion. So I recommend against Sony, in my personal experience.

I always recommend the Canon Powershot line. Mine's an S30, a good number of years old, but it's stood up to a number of drops and is still kickin'. Overall, a good range of cameras and not too bad on the wallet.

I have a Casio Exilim. Very cute and small...comes in a few different colors as well. It takes pictures and video. It's little pricey but worth it.

I have a Powershot SD450, and it treats me very well. Lots of extras, decent color, 5 megapixels.

Out of curiosity, for what kind of photography do you plan to use the camera?
