Haps, why did so many people emigrate from Germany at the end of the 19th century? Wasn't Germany economically prosperous then?
Huh, actually the first half of the 19th century saw the biggest emmigration waves (economic reasons, bad harvests, ...).
It stopped with the Civil war.
The one you're talking about... I don't know why it happened.
Maybe I'll find something. Gimme a few minutes.
Hmm, what could have possibly changed in the region now called Germany towards the end of the 19th century. Say, around 1871 or so ...
I don't think that the Franco-Prussian war would have caused a lot of emigration to America.

Knights of Cydonia continues to be an awesome song.
Were you expecting it to stop at some point? Because, haha, that's a pretty foolish expectation. You may as well wait for Bohemian Rhapsody to stop being the best piece of music recorded in the 70s.
I didn't expect it to stop, nor the other example, but I keep having hipsters tell me that it did. They can't seem to expand on it any further than to tell me that I don't understand, which yes I already acknowledge that I don't understand hence asking for clarification.

Germany as a country didn't exist until 1871. And it was unified into a militaristic empire largely controlled out of Prussia.

German Empire came into being. I imagine some people might be unhappy about that.

For those of you too lazy to google, that was the year Hitler was elected.
'Elected?' Uhhh, OK ... except that it wasn't much of an election. He stole the Scepter of the Shifting Sands from the Jews, opened the gates of Ahn'Qiraj, and then rode the combination of divine writ and his [Black Qir'aji Battle Tank] to the throne. God, get your fucking history right.

I am aware of this. It still doesn't seem like something that would have cause a wave of emigration. Maybe some of the bourgeois or intellectual elite, but not many workers and laborers.
The Prussian - Austrian war seems to be the key reason, the Franco - Prussian war was just, you know, another war. People generally dislike them. And the newly formed German Empire didn't have enough jobs for all its people. This changed in 1892 when industrialization was in full swing and that's also when the emmigration waves stopped.

I'm afraid you're actually very wrong.
Hitler came to power in 1799.
Don't lie to the poor boy, Hitler has always been in power. He's like the Dali Lama though, the Germans just have to find which new body he's been born into every time he dies.
So I made a Twitter last night. Ok, fine. Today I can't login- it tells me that my password is invalid. This is impossible since I use the same thing for EVERYTHING, and my phone had 'remember my password' set (and I obviously didn't change it while sleeping) and now my phone's Twitter client is failing to authenticate, also. I hit 'send email to reset password' and it says it was sent but I didn't get it.
Did... did someone hack my little, unimportant Twitter account the first night I got it?

The Beatles aren't so awesome when paired with Jay-Z. And they sound kind of dated by themselves.

God, nevermind. You killed it. Next time I see you in the road I'm not going to swerve. I'll honk, but then I'll laugh because you don't have ears.
