Aliens vs. Predator (3!) - Yes, it's coming out on PC too.

Original Post:
So, I was looking online to see if my AvP2 was broken or if online play really was dead forever (), when I came across this little gem of a news article on AvPGalaxy that came about just yesterday... http://www.avpgalaxy.net/index.php?subaction=showcomments&id=1240453302&archive=&start_from=&ucat=7&

Whaaaa? Apparently some magazine scans have surfaced in some Spanish magazine (and later, some British magazine) giving a first peak at the game, set to come out in 2010. They don't really say anything too revealing, just that the game will feature a three-way single player campaign and online play, and it's coming out on the PS3. Oh, and it's set 30 years after Aliens, if that matters. I'm not sure what the rule is on posting magazine scans here, so I'm not posting them in this OP myself until I figure out what's what.

Details, Details:

For some misbegotten reason this is being published under the title Aliens vs. Predator, instead of something that makes sense in a human tongue like Aliens vs. Predator 3. It's under the helm of Rebellion, the masterminds of the first game, and the long forgotten relic of the Atari that doesn't count because I say so. The release is currently a tentative Q1 2010.

The plan is to release the thing on all of the major systems, save the Wii which is stupid anyway. Yes, for the last time that includes the PC.

This is not Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines, which is planned for release sometime after AvP, under the same publisher, Sega.

So, here's what you actually came for, Screenies!

So on board with this. AvP 2 multiplayer was the original Left 4 Dead. Kinda.

This is different than Colonial Marines? I haven't been keeping up because I'm the only person on Earth who doesn't like Alien/Aliens.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is still, apparently, a different game. It's apparently still under development as well, not that anyone would know, because no info has come out in ages. Colonial Marines is Gearbox, this is apparently Rebellion, but both are under Sega.

Yep, I just looked into it, and Sega says AvP 3 will be the first of their new Aliens franchise, followed up by Colonial Marines some undetermined time later.

It looks like the marines get a cover system; it will be interesting to see if the other creatures get one as well. I would think the button used to take cover as a marine would make you super jump/pounce/wall stick as an Alien.

Either way, it looks good at least.

Also, how long has avpgalaxy been around now? Pretty sure I used to check that place out back when I played AvP Gold.

It's funny, a cover system is one of those things that an AvP game actually doesn't really need. Hiding behind cover doesn't protect you from aliens running up and raping you in the face, and Predators can just blast your fool head off as soon as you peek over it.

Edit: The last panel's caption on the second page (The one with the 2 marines, an alien and a predator) is "There is a multiplayer mode, and while they haven't confirmed anything, they promote that they will make "History" with it."

Do you use any of the pro mods, or just regular? Cause I remember regular AvP 2 was pretty unbalanced with Predators using their OP disc. Really got into playing with one of the multiplayer mods and dueling Aliens with a Predator and combistick.

Regular. We'll have at least one Marine, Predator and Alien. The really open levels are great for the predators, the really cramped levels are great for marines, and the more in-between, shadowy levels are fantastic for aliens. We usually set the "become a queen" to only four kills, so the games really turn frantic. There's nothing better to freak the shit out of people when they're walking around a shadowed corner to find a huge-ass black thing snarling and running in their direction.

My flat-mate killed me once (he a marine, me as a predalien) and when I asked him how he knew I was coming around the corner, he said he could hear my predalien growling to itself in the adjacent corridor

I could never get the hang of the queen. It might have been scary as shit but I rarely got any kills with the thing. I was ace with the standard aliens though ("warriors", right?). AvP 2 was the only FPS where I could regularly top a server.

Does Goozex provide a fresh pair of underwear? You're gonna need it for AvP 1.

AvP 2 definitely had a better story-driven campaign, but it was nowhere near as scary as AvP 1. I could not finish the Marine campaign of AvP 1 if someone paid me to.

AvP was the first FPS I played online and it was glorious. AvP2 had better multi overall but I had so many more awesome moments with the first. Plus you start with a pulse rifle, none of that pistol rubbish like the second.

Colonial Marines is coming out for PC, 360, and PS3. Though the AvP3 article only mentions the PS3, I think it's safe to assume that it'll show up on the other two platforms as well.

Can. Not. Wait. Seriously. AvP2 has, hands down, been my favourite game ever to LAN (I've yet to try a LAN of L4D...) so a third one coming out with excellent graphics has me stoked. :D
