Not much this week.

Super Robot Taisen OG Saga comes out for Nintendo DS, and it looks like a pretty good game.

PC is getting a Lineage II expansion or something.

PSP is getting Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce.

Xbox360 and PC are getting Velvet Assassin.

Everybody is getting X-Men Origins: Wolverine

And finally I think XBLA is getting Banjo-Tooie and Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram Ver.5.66.

    What's this Velvet Assasin?

    I'm not sure.

Kotaku tried to make some hoopla about it, but I ignored said hoopla.

    OK I remember now.

Velvet Assassin is a third person action game taking place in World War II.

It involves both stealth and sometimes shooting action.

You play as a female assassin.

That's the extent of my knowledge.

I really wish the demo for Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce wasn't complete garbage, because it completely un-sold me on the game. I'd be tempted to buy it since everybody can go super-saiyan and stuff and generally cause chaos with local multiplayer. Stupid/awesome concept (depending on how you look at it) but very poorly executed. No Dynasty Warriors game should be built around -letting- you die a certain amount of times, since it means you -will- die more than the allotted times.

Umm, it looks like a pretty miss week, excluding SRTOG. Maybe we'll see something else good come up before Atlus just goes and takes all of my moneys

I'm not even into roleplaying games, but Super Robot Taisen looks pretty awesome even to me. Mostly because the combat looks like fun. Whereas most RPG combat engines bore me.

Well, the two GBA games were pretty good, so I expect this one to be just as good, and it looks like it may be better, from what I've heard

Well, looking over some stuff, it looks like next week will be a better week, at least for the niche gamers.

Don't mistake SRT for Super Robot Wars. This is a regular, non SRPG about breasts.

I will eventually buy it on the cheap, not this week.

In fact I'm going to save some money over the next few months by not buying anything.

I took a look at some Super Robot Taisen videos, and I can't fathom what type of game it actually is.

Is it a SRPG? A regular RPG? Or a beat 'em up?

Velvet Assassin has the misfortune of being associated with Saboteur by proxy, which looks infinitely more interesting.

That said, it's been too long since we had a good stealth game that wasn't MGS, so I hope it turns out okay. The trailer was okay, though the name is still terrible.

It's basically the exact same combat system used in Namco X Capcom.

It also has the game's protagonists in it.

Both are the main reasons I'm getting this on day 1.

It's an XNA Community Game so it doesn't have an official date, but I hope this gets released this week: http://www.xnplay.co.uk/2009/04/26/halfbrick-echoes/

It's an Action/puzzle game where you run around collecting gems. The catch is that every time you collect a gem, an evil echo of your previous actions appears. Touch an echo and you die. The company's previous XNA Community Game was good (a gravity/spaceship puzzle game) so I have high hopes for it.

I'm waiting on reviews for Wolverine, but being a film tie-in, I strongly anticipate summaries to include "short, repetitive, dull".

I may be wrong, apparently it was finished early and given more time to be polished up (which I'll believe until proven otherwise) and I like the idea of actually being able to rip people to shreds with your claws, rather than just pester them until they fall over. It could potentially be really good, but I can wait.

I downloaded the JP demo (my PSP is tied to a JP account, and I don't know how to change it D:) and really enjoyed it, actually.. it seemed a bit hard but the idea was so over the top awesome that I couldn't help but love it. I think I died maybe once or twice and it didn't seem like it was a huge deal or something I had to do. Maybe I'm just weird.

I don't know. I tried a few different characters and never beat the demo level once. At most, I'd make it to the last level and then Lu Bu and his Giant Monster went "Oh hey, so about you living. Yeaaaaah..."

It just didn't feel like a DW game to me, was the big problem. Which is more or less why it kicked my teeth in.

Edit: And this seems like the place to put this. Best Buy is having a $10 sale on a lot of DS/PS3/360 games. Probably worth looking into, at least.

Velvet Assassin is the one that's selling itself as based on the exploits of real-life WWII secret agent Violette Szabo, conveniently ignoring the fact she ended up captured on her second mission, imprisoned by the SS, tortured, raped and executed at 23 years old. Not really that attached to my high horse or anything - the game might be good - it's just the dream sequences in skimpy nightgown and trailer with EPIC RAWK MUSIC and NECK STABBING can't help but leave a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

And the Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce demo was utterly awesome. It's the ARPG combat system Too Human should have had, basically, instead of that broken, wounded mess we ended up with.

    RE: Wolverine game

Is it a movie tie-in game? Yes... BUT --

    a) It's being developed by Raven

    b) It began development before it was decided to become a "movie tie in game." In other words, Raven started the game right after Ultimate Alliance with the idea that they wanted to make a more single player experience super hero game.

So there's some reason to believe that it won't be utter trite garbage. Raven is a solid dev, and the game was designed and began development before it became the official movie game.
