$650 cash withdrawl

Long story short I need $650 to get my car out of an emergency towing lot.
They only take cash (for fuck knows what reason).

My bank doesn't exist out here. So I'm screwed on that part.

I believe ATMs limit you to what, $200 bucks?
Does anyone know if I can return to do another transaction on that ATM?
What if I got to another ATM? Would it matter? Would it need to be another banks ATM?
What about getting cash back at a supermarket? What's the limit on that?
Could I simply go back in line and do it again?

Cash back in stores is usually limited to $100, you could get back in line but if you try to get $650 that way they're likely going to call a manager and quite possibly tell you no cause its pretty damage suspicious.

You should be able to just use different ATMs though. In the past I've withdrawn $300 from a machine then walked down the street to another ATM and withdrawn another $200, from the same bank even.

There is the possibility that your bank will see that and turn off your card though, since from what you've said you'll be withdrawing a large amount of money in an area away from home.

Call your bank and ask for them to authorize your account for a large withdrawal. This is how I bought my computer back in the day.

Well my bank also doesn't have any ATMs out here, would calling my bank matter if I was using another banks ATM?

And if I do call them I guess I'm stuck using a few ATMs?

Edit: Last Son mentioned getting 300 out from a single ATM, is that the typical limit?

You may have to call the bank just to let them know you'll be doing this period - if you try to withdraw $650 in $200 increments from 3 ATMs in a short period of time it raises tons of red flags in their anti-theft software and may lock you out of using your ATM card.

Call your bank. They can authorize a temporary withdrawal.

My bank limits my ATM to 500$ over a 24 hour period.

Well the lady at the bank said "What? Have you used your card where you are at before? Then you should be fine."

I'm guessing most of that lock-out business looks for where rather then how much.
Well, I'm off to some ATMs I guess.

$500 a day is what I thought was the norm.
You might need to ask a friend for a 24hr loan.

Most people have a daily transaction and/or cash withdrawal limit on their ATM card. I found out the hard way when trying to pay for my laptop that way. But if you go to your bank, or call them, they will set it to whatever you need.

I very much expect your single withdrawal limit is lower than $650, and your daily withdrawal limit is probably $500, at most. Call your bank and find out what your limits are.

Using another bank's ATM shouldn't matter, other than you'd probably get stuck with the usual "using someone else's ATM" service charge, which isn't a big deal.

So despite what the women from the bank said I do indeed have a daily cash allowance of $500.
Which I now have. The other women I called said there was no way of increasing this.

I asked her about getting cash back on a purchase at a supermarket (as I've heard it gets around your cash limit) and she had no idea if it would work or not.

This whole situation has been ridiculous.

    For the curious:
I got stuck in a ditch at 3 am just outside my buddies school.
I called AAA (well, its not AAA but whatever my family has) and while I was on hold while they were looking for a tow company my buddy called me back. They said they had a truck and they'd get it out first thing in the morning(we needed to buy a chain). I was off the road on back roads so I was pretty comfortable leaving it.

Apparently AAA called the State Police because I was missing or some such. They found my car.
The tow company they called needed 2 trucks to get it out (which I don't believe at all and came to 500 bucks).

So I called the company first thing in the morning (8am) and they said they wouldn't release it to me because I'm not the registered owner (my parents, same last name all around though). So after figuring out a way for my family to fax over information so they would they realized they wouldn't release it because police had dropped it off. So I called them.

The officer who picked up the car had to be the one to call the tow company. He worked 12-7 am so I had to wait till the next night to talk to him. So I racked up another night of fees leaving it there.
I called and the women said he was on patrol and would call me at the end off his shift.
    He didn't.
So I had to wait till the next day to go and see him. I went down to the station before he got on just so nothing could happen again. Everything went smoothly and he called and said I could get it in the morning.

I called them first thing in the morning and they said everyone was out at the time and I should call back.
I started dealing with the money situation, which I think may have to wait till tomorrow, which means I rack up another night of storage fees.

Anyway, when I called them again (still before 12 in the afternoon) they said there wouldn't be anyone there till 6pm.

Tow lots are SUPER SHADY. i once got towed from a lot that had a sign saying $300 max tow charge. Well, yes, they charged $300 for the tow, another 75 for the winch charge, and like $100 for transit, and like $30/day for storage. they had it less than 24 hours, and charged me for 2 days (parked in the evening, went to get it next morning, gone. went and got it a few hours later). they supplied me with an invoice that didn't even total correctly. The itemized list was more than the total, so i didn't say anything.

Long story short, watch out. they will gouge you any way they can. and i'm not entirely sure it's legal. though this sounds like an impound, and i don't think they are quite as underhanded, but still a pain.

The amount varies with every bank.

Worth considering is speaking with the garage that towed it for you. They understood that my limit was $300 and took that along with my address.

No, it was the people that the AAA group called.
However shit just went crazy because they had called the police.

But yea, this situation has turned into a three day event, maybe four.
I can't stand it. Feels like everyone is giving me the runaround/don't care.

The worst part is, I have all of my belongings in there since I was coming home from school for the summer.
I'm hours from home, which is one of the reasons things have been going the way they have been (parents, cash, no chain etc.).

The most ridiculous part is they said they may have damaged the car pulling it out. :|

Anyway, thanks for all the help guys.
I still can't believe a bunch of guys on the internet knew more about my bank then... my bank..

Maybe it depends on bank policies, or maybe its because I've been going to the same bank for like 15 years now, but the limit can be changed to whatever you like and however you like. If your bank is that inflexible, maybe its time to shop around - I bank with Scotiabank and they're rad.

Edit: and for clarities sake, I've called them up and had it increased within minutes at about 9pm PST once.

You're going to want to get an itemized receipt too. Proving you paid the fuckers could become problematic given that you're dealing in cash. Ask to see the total invoice BEFORE you hand the money over.

Is this a strict ATM card or is it a Visa/MC Debit card?

If it is a Visa/MC you should be able to go to another banks teller and do a cash withdrawal on it.
As well, just check the logos on the back of your ATM card. Most ATM cards that I am aware of operate across huge networks, so you should be able to use it at quite a few ATM's that do not list your bank.

** Just noticed you said you had $500 in hand.

Yes, cash back at a supermarket would work. They just add it to your purchase and it appears as one purchased transaction to the bank. Plus; super lame that your bank says there is no way to increase it. I have called my bank more than once to have them temporarily lift my restrictions.

I'm almost certain this is not true. It may depend on your state.
it'll be nearly impossible to prove anyway. if this tow/impound yard is as poorly managed as he makes it out to be, they'll just blame any damage on that old chestnut "it was like that when we got here".
