Do we use less of our imagination, making the game less fun? Think about reading, something entirely based on our imagination. Compare this to the average video game of today, where graphics, physics, and complexity come together to create a game that the average Joe computer programmer can't make anymore. Isn't this backwards? Shouldn't we be using something that works instead of creating something that is completely different by way of upgrades?
Game developers wield game graphics like they are a feature, shouldn't they be an addition to the already awesome game they are making? Why add completely new graphics when you can use your imagination to fill in the blanks?
Back in the day you could make a popular computer game by yourself like writer can make a book. When did writing a book turn into a 4 year time investment and more manpower and money than opening up a department store?
By comparison, if you have ever modded or mapped for a game pre 1998 then you should know what I'm talking about. Today making a popular map for the game you want is more along the lines of crafting a fine tuned guitar compared to a ball of clay you meshed into a specific shape.
Are we buying picturebooks compared to the novels we used to buy?

g&t's that way
Then can you please tell me why we want to see textures at higher resolutions?

I roll 20s, motherfucker
i started going to an escrima class
it's pretty fun!
because when we are presented with a defined presentation of an idea or concept we want it realised as well as possible.
it would be like wanting a description of something in a book to have been written better.
it is still describing the same thing, but the quality of presentation enhances the experience.
i'm not talking about fighting in that thread
that thread is like poison
I don't know anything about Escrima
I took about 6-7 months of Shaolin Kenpo Karate, stopped when my parents got divorced

It's not what you think it is, but with a little imagination... it's still not what you want it to be.
well just to inform you thumb placement is very important
Ok that's a lie. Never take anything into a fight that you wouldn't want ripped from your hands and used against you.
Ahh, lessons learned.

A game which also came out around that time named dues ex 2 didnt use physics and was automatically conned a bad game. Fast forward to 2008, there isn't a game around that doesnt use physics in one way or another because the game that had it first was popular.
There are legitimate reasons not to go for the most high-end graphics. This is not one of them.
Though those reasons are mostly stylistic, with my distaste for graphics that try too hard to be realistic. Also there is the recent popularity of intentionally retro graphics.
that is a fact, jack! first things we learned were thumb placement and maintaining punyo
I don't think you understand why people actually disliked Deus Ex 2.
