EDIT: Make sure you read the first Sandman graphic novel at some point if for no other reason than "24 hours". One of the scariest goddamn stories I've ever read.
Or one of the most hillarious, depending on how you look at it.
I liked Bill's analysis of Superman in Kill Bill, Vol. 2, although I can imagine it rubbed Superman fans the wrong way.
That "Clark Kent is the disguise" speech?
Yeah, it rubbed me the wrong way because it's fucking wrong. Superman is two people. He's Kal-El and Clark Kent. He's said it times before that he couldn't and wouldn't give up being either of them.
Why else would he be Clark Kent?
I thought it rang true for the Superdickery Superman who seems to pretend to be Clark just to fuck with Lois.
It's not true for modern Clark, of course, because modern Clark doesn't suffer from artificial bumbling and deliberate displays of comical weakness. The faux loser Clark, however, was nothing but artificial mannerisms designed to be the opposite of Superman's.

Talk about being completely overwhelmed. I dont think they could have fit a single additional comic in that entire store. It was crammed. So crammed I didn't have the time to really find what I was looking for. I did manage to pick up Invincible #0 for a buck. Little did I know it's really just an ad for the series but, it does make me interested in the series.

the best comic stores are so completely disheveled
At the same time, it is kind of fun to go look through a dingy old comic shop for back issues.
I just hate when they're all dirty and half the store is taken up by the warhammer tables and the clerks are only interested in helping their freinds and they have like a spinner dedicated to new releases and its only Marvel and DC titles.
The thing about Superman, I think, is that his ongoing is never really great. I mean up up and away was fun and all. But really, when's the last time a superman ongoing was a must read title? His minis are usually really good, but his actual monthly books? Not so much.

Superman has been terrific since OYL. I haven't read the latest "Superman" arc, but Action Comics with Geoff Johns and Richard Donner hasn't been bad, either.
It's weird that neither Superman or Action Comics came out in December (or January, in Action's case)

All open and white and inviting and like an art gallery.
The one store that I sometimes go to is pretty neat and organized. (Brave New Worlds) It's got windows on both ends of the store, so it's nice and bright, too.
Actually, my "main" store is really organized, too.

That looks pretty nice, pretty nice.
The store I frequent is pretty small, and has tiny windows full of things for sale, so it has very little natural light. Still, it's very well organized, friendly and clean.
Stilll though, my favorite used book stores are the ones with books piled everywhere, total fire hazards.
Basically I'm a big ol' hypocrite.

I love my local comic shop. It's like a giant flea market for comics. Their back issue prices suck though.
Which is why I sometimes go to my other favorite comic shop, where the owner, who is by the way one of the nicest, most unabashed nerds you'll ever meet, sells most back issues for a buck a pop. It's also a lot more clean and organized than the other place, and the walls are adorned with geek memorabilia the owner's collected over the years. Signed pictures of him with Lou Ferrigno and that kind of stuff. There also used to be a Subway attached to the building, which made it about a thousand times more awesome. The selection of trades is sorely lacking though.

Man I miss comic quest so much, the shop i go to in bloomington sucks...

Such a place is not worthy of the title comic book shop. I went into a place like that once. I immediately went home and took a shower. Creepiest place I've ever been in, including dive bars in Eastern European nations.
I got into graphic novels back in october and have been loving them ever since.
So far I have read:
Watchmen (amazing)
V for Vendetta
Batman: Year One
Batman: The Long Halloween (This and Year One went great together)
Batman: Dark Knight Returns (awesome)
Batman: Dark Knight Strikes Again (I didn't like it nearly as much as DKR)
Batman: Hush 1&2 (amazing art with a great, albeit cheesy, storyline)
Batman: Face the Face (this is pretty new I think. It wasn't bad)
Crisis of Conscience (a must read for DC fans. I will never look at Green Arrow the same way)
And I am just now reading Kingdom Come which is fantastic.
I really want to read Infinite Crisis and Crisis on Infinite Earths but they are a bit harder to find.
I am a total Batman/DC whore, can anyone reccomend anything that I may be missing to get the whole Batman/DC experience?

Since you liked Year One and Long Halloween, go pick up Batman: Dark Victory. It uses several characters from Year One and LH, and is pretty much a direct continuation of LH's plotline. Then, if you enjoy Dark Victory and like Catwoman at all, go pick up Catwoman: When in Rome, which is done by the same guys who did LH and DV, and deals with Catwoman and the Roman.

Also pick up Batman Haunted Knight, was done by Loeb and Sale before they did Long Halloween and it's quite good.
Make sure you also pick up
JLA Tower of Babel
Gotham by Gaslight (if you can find it)
Batman The Killing Joke (If you can find it)
Batman & Dracula: Red Rain (If you can find it)
For Just straight DC
The Nail
Another Nail
Superman For All Seasons (also done by Loeb and Sale)
Superman Birthright
Superman Red Son
Oh also the first two Superman & Batman trades are quite good and they were written by Loeb (so was Hush but I think you have that already)
I finally went down to the local comic shop and picked up some trades I'd been meaning to get for a while.
The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes
The Sandman: The Doll's House
The Sandman: Dream Country
The Sandman: Season of Mist
Why did it take me so long to read Sandman?
Hellboy: Strange Places
The Walking Dead: The Best Defense
Penny Arcade: The Warsun Prophecies
Invincible Ultimate Collection Volume 1 (I had this already but gave it away as a Christmas Present)
The Invincible Universe Guide Volume 2 (I need to find Volume 1)
The comic shop i go to sometimes in London is called Orbital Comics and it's pretty much just a basement. It's a funny little place, dingy and with no carpet, just wooden panels.
I have got to get Kingdom Come off of my friend. I'm not a fan of Alex Ross' artwork but I am very interested to read that one.
What're some good Silver Age stories or, failing that, stories set during the Silver Age? I've enjoy all the Year One books and the original Doom Patrol stories.

Actually, Killing Joke was reprinted in, "DC Universe: The stories of Alan Moore."
Which I highly recommend to anyone, as it contains Batman: The Killing Joke(To many, the Definitive Joker Story), Whatever Happened To The Man of Tomorrow(To many, the definitive Silver Age Superman story), And Mogo Doesn't Socialize(Not definitive, but damn funny).

For the Man Who Has Everything, Tygers, and In Blackest Night were pretty rad, too. That's a great trade, but no surprise there, right?

Ya I know, but I managed to find both The Killing Joke and whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow last year as their stand alone trades and really I'm much happier that way, it's just.. nicer.
The DC Alan Moore collection is totally rad though if you can't find the small trades themselves.
edit - actually if memory serves I had to order The Killing Joke and Gotham by Gaslight off of Ebay, and my local shop managed for some damn reason to have Red Rain and For the Man of Tomorrows tucked away somewhere. I was actually quite impressed with the Ebay experience, they arrived in fucking pristine! condition.

it's not all great though
the vigilante stuff is like 48 pages of a guy i've never heard of doing stuff i don't care about
I didn't mean not worth it in a im such a loner and nobody loves me sort of way. I just meant that the 21st and 30th are the real memorable birthdays. The rest are fun for sure, but not quite the same.
Im excited for this book to get here. It's my first Absolute Edition, and all the review's here have been promising.

keith are you retarded? Go Read Ender's Game right now.
For anybody who say's they 'don't like superman' go read -
Superman For All Seasons
Superman Birthright
Superman Red Son
The Nail
freaking immediately. This is just the cusp.
edit -
Bruce Wayne is Batman's Disguise. Clark Kent is just.. Clark Kent.. that's who Superman is.
There is a big difference.
in a showing of hypocrisy, I am going to say no because spaceships do nothing for me
All open and white and inviting and like an art gallery.
More like, wasted floor space, m i rite?
Heh, I found the wesbite for the comic shop I went to. But they are smart enough to not put up any pictures of the inside.

dude, I don't kid around when it comes to Captain Marvel's junk
if you see "Shazam: Power of Hope" at a store, page through it
he's hung like no other

high five to that
Ryan Ottley didn't design Rex Splode. Cory Walker did.

It's a nice gift, but it won't make up for forgetting your own birthday.
Meh, after 21 and before 30 all the birthdays in between are pretty much not worth celebrating.
you're kidding right
free crap once a year and everyone buys you drinks?
it's your day, baby!
