You don't know what I'm saying, yet know I haven't shown any evidence for that...?

Doesn't that make sense? Apparently you can't articulate your point, because every time someone goes against it you clarify and say what you really meant was something only vaguely different, conveniently sidestepping the need to address it.

I mean, the whole rest of your reply as case in point.

However I'm fairly certain that you are implying something about cutscenes in some capacity having some manner of negative impact upon the popular pastime known as video games, which is enough to know that you are incorrect.

Forget you haters, this sounds pretty awesome:
The following information comes from a Famitsu interview with Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi and Nintendo's Yoshio Sakamoto...

"Sakamoto wanted to make a 3D action game that could be played with a single Wii remote. The concept was 'the latest in gameplay with the simplest of controls.'" - Team Ninja leader Yosuke Hayashi

"We had decided how many buttons to use from the planning stages, and I think Team Ninja went through a lot of trial-and-error with the controls, getting them right without increasing the number of buttons. There were a lot of things that couldn't be done here without the first-person view that Metroid Prime used. That's why we have the search view that lets you examine your surroundings from a first-person perspective and fire missiles. I think it provides the sort of gameplay that's only possible with the Wii remote. If you come across something that seems suspicious, that's your cue to try switching perspectives. We intended to have a lot of that searching aspect because that's what Metroid is known for -- Metroid games have unique map structures and lots of hidden corridors, and I was worried that Team Ninja would have trouble grasping the concept at first, but the know-how involved went over loud and clear and I'm impressed with the results." - Yoshio Sakamoto

"I think Metroid is all about having suspicious-looking hiding places and finding items there. There's nothing unfair about how we hide them -- they're hidden in places you can spot once you think it through a little, and that's what makes finding items fun in this game." - Yosuke Hayashi

(How many item pick-ups are there?) "As many as there are in any other Metroid game. I think you'll only find about 30% of the pickups in a normal plalythrough." - Yosuke Hayashi

"We're making this game so there's no obvious seam between the cutscenes and action parts, ensuring the player isn't cut off from the scene and can get into the story. Doing that required us to keep that concept in mind all through the motion capture process; you can't tell if it's working until you actually make everything. We couldn't re-do the motion capture afterward, so I was really anxious after it wrapped up." - Yoshio Sakamoto

"We set it up so that there are as few 'now loading' displays as possible. We want the player to get into the story and not feel cut off from it emotionally, so we were careful with that aspect of it. I think we've been able to set up the game so that players can forget that loading is taking place entirely. Even saving the game is a seamless process here, which I think makes it a very comfortable and addictive experience." - Yosuke Hayashi

"There's a 'theater mode' that lets you view all of the cutscenes linked together seamlessly as a single movie,. We placed just as much weight on enjoying the story as we did on the action aspects of this game, but it's hard to fully communicate a storyline in a video game with just one playthrough. At the same time, though, it's asking a lot of players to beat the game twice to get it all, so that's where the idea for that mode came from. It lets you make a lot of discoveries, things you missed or dialogue that makes more sense in retrospect. I hope it helps people understand the story better." - Yoshio Sakamoto

    - theater-mode movie is about two hours in length
    - divided into chapters
    - includes pre-recorded gameplay bits, instead of your own gameplay

"I wanted to do that, but we're using our own sample play data instead because that's also a way of giving the player hints -- like, you can beat this particular boss this way too, and so forth." - Yoshio Sakamoto

"Samus has not been portrayed externally in 3D all that much, so there weren't many previous examples of how her movements and attack stance should look. As a result, we had a trial-and-error process for figuring out how to show off her assorted actions in 3D. We originally had scenes with Samus getting blown away in flashy fashion by enemy attacks. Nintendo didn't want that to be emphasized, but if Samus isn't 'selling it' that way, then that'll make the enemy's attacks have less impact -- it won't mean as much when Samus defeats the enemy. Eventually Nintendo saw it our way, and we had the freedom to do what we wanted there." - Yosuke Hayashi

"In making this game, I wanted to tell action-game fans that this is Team Ninja's newest game without feeling embarrassed to do so. At the same time, I also think that people who've drifted away from the genre can get a taste of what makes action games fun once again, so I'd love everyone to try it out." - Yosuke Hayashi

But the game boils down to: exploration, action, collectibles, and Samus. That's been every Metroid ever.

It just has more story that previously, which I welcome as an experiment to see how they pull it off. I really enjoyed Metroid Fusion and the story it had. I welcome getting to actually witness the stuff discussed in Fusion.

wingo, i will say this - the crux of your argument rests on your assertion that there can be too many cut scenes and that fewer cut scenes generally improve rather than hurt a game. The fallacy here is that you're using indefinite adjectives that are defined solely by your own preferences. How many is TOO many, etc. etc. Those terms seem to be able to follow your own definition, which should not, in any sense, ever, be used as an infallible rubric for other people to subscribe to. You pretend like that's not the precedent you're setting but anyone in disagreement with you is automatically wrong. To you, cut scenes are objectively shallow but they are only made so by your own subjective opinion. You state that no game is made better with more cut scenes and that fewer cut scenes always improves a game. But you have in no way qualified this statement as objective truth with any kind of evidence apart from your own personal preferences. Ultimately it devolves into circular logic where you feel only you have the right answer when in fact you're in agreement with the opposing argument which is saying much of the same thing. A "good" game such as halo or what have you has the right number of cut scenes, but that is only because it's a good game in its own right, not simply because it struck some kind of magical balance. The same number and quality of cut scenes in a worse game would suddenly mean that there are too many cut scenes because it's a bad game. Saying only good games have a good amount of cut scenes is redundant because obviously they're good games. You could just as well say that fewer cut scenes always makes a game worse since stripping cut scenes from games that are already established as being a good game could also potentially take away from the experience. And then, when games such as MGS4, a game we can objectively state is a good game, for various reasons, regardless of whether or not you personally enjoyed it, is brought up as an example, it's cast aside because your own opinion supersedes that of the mass market and professional critics due to your own egotism.

and there. i've wasted 15 minutes of my life probably talking to a wall. I hope you're happy.

    man, wut

She saved the galaxy from Mother Brain twice at this stage in the game's canon, and she's going to refrain from using heavy artillery, even in a life threatening situation, because some military prick who has it out for her anyway says not to?

It is an effective explanation for why she doesn't have access to all her abilities from before right away. They did it really well in Metroid Prime and kind of decided to ignore/handwave it in Prime 2 and 3, I think(?).

To be fair considering the number of super high level contracts she's fulfilled I don't think paying for a ship would be that difficult.

And I'm pretty sure the Fusion intro says that the ship she's got there is the only ship she could get in short order.

If Samus really respects Adam as a CO in the military sense, they may as well be the exact same thing. Whether a digital unlock or a social one, they're both self-imposed restrictions for a specific reason, and perfectly rational.

Plus it sounds like it's just bombs and missiles, and later on you'll find actual traditional upgrades, meaning that it hardly matters in the long run.

I've been thinking about that too. It makes me cautiously optimistic.

I don't really mind seeing a more people-focused and cutscene-heavy entry into the Metroid franchise. I love the solitary feeling of exploring alien environments all alone, but almost all of the previous games are exactly that. This seems like it will be a fresh take on the franchise, showing that there is more to the Metroid universe than Samus blowing up planets all by her lonesome.

First, it's too late to get that awesome figurine for newcomers. See, each year there is a Gold Status and Platinum Status based on how many coins you earned that year. Gold gets one (crappier) reward and Platinum gets the choice of the Platinum reward or the Gold one. They announce the rewards around July and then your status gets reset for the next year.

Last year the Platinum reward was either a Mario hat or an exclusive Wiiware Punch Out match where you got to fight your trainer Doc. Gold has been a calendar both years.

To get Gold you need to have earned 300 coins during the year, and Platinum is 600. Most Wii games are worth 50, Wii Fit is 80, DS games are like 30, consoles are something from 100 to 200, basically it correlates to the dollar amount you spend. But you can get a lot of bonus coins for doing extra surveys after playing a game or saying you "intend to buy" a game and then buy it later.

On top of the Gold/Platinum system, which is really just a perk, there is a store where you can buy all manner of Nintendo merch with your coins, including sweet posters and collector's item DS games.

Well it's kind of off topic and a little late, but here is some strategy: if you know you have more potential coins than 600 for one year, it might be best to get 500 coins and then wait until the start of summer to finish it up. This is because sometimes you just get extra coins for no reason, maybe there's a bonus survey that only is available for a month, maybe you get some coins added automatically when you buy a Wiiware, etc. And any coins over 600 is a bit wasteful when they could've been applied to next year's status.

Also, the coins don't expire in July, just the status, so if you want the 800 coin DS game you could add those extra 200 coins next year to make them count.

I know a lot of people don't care, it's just a meta-game you can play with their system. :P

Yeah, I wasn't paying attention to the total until it was too late. I just saw that I had surveys to take (apparently at one point I was registering games with Nintendo - can't remember why) so it remembered a bunch that were already in there.
