So, the huxley closed beta is running now, I figured this would be a good spot to talk about what we are seeing as long as we aren't breaking the NDA.
I'd like to get together with other PA members for making a clan during CBT mainly to get used to clan management and to test the features.
so, if anyone else has the CBT for huxley and wants to get with me, the names Kharven in game.
I'd appreciate it if we keep screenshots etc to a minimum in the thread as we are all under an NDA and I'd like to not break that. I think general discussions of strats etc would be fine.
I do have a Vent server we can use if needed, so email me in game and I will get you access and info.

I haven't been keeping up with this game, but was the MMO aspect dropped completely? This is just Unreal Tournament death match!
since we are under NDA I can't say anything in detail.
I will say that it's pretty goddamn amazing, and that I don't think anything you've seen can really explain what this game is like, I certainly wasn't expecting this amount of awesomeness in a beta.
and foomy, I shall add you as a friend, I'd like to test some stuff out like trades, making groups, forming clans etc.

wtf game are you playing? When I log in, if the lag doesn't cause it to freeze out, it plays a lot like an UT deathmatch and there isn't a whole lot of the RPG that was supposed to be in it.
Is this game Quake III but you pay for it?

Crappy UT-clone at most, jumping and crouching does nothing for accuracy so bunny hopping is main mode of transportation in matches. "Classes" are mostly the same except for limiting to what few weapons you can use and a few skills. Gameplay-speed is UT but more bullets to kill someone, weapon use the same as in UT.(Did I mention they use the UT 2,5 engine? I bet they used stock-weapons included in the license).
There is no "mmo" about it except maybe the "everyone meets in the same city"-aspect. Matches are 8 vs 8 at most (rank-locked and/or higher player count not in yet). Oh, and it's P2P-based matches (the hell) with the standard CTF, deathmatch, team-deathmatch and king of the hill.
The official name of the game is Huxley: The Dystopia, which is funny because the HL2-mod Dystopia is a really good (free) sci-fi classbased fps.(Dystopia is so good that I'm surprised no publisher has picked it up, but thats not for this thread).

I'd actually like to play around with it more before I make up my mind about it. Stuck at a point in the Tutorial where I need to go fight a local match to proceed (couldn't get a game to start), but I think there's some potential in there. Saw some solo questing bits that reminded me (in a good way) of PSO...

yes the beta is only testing certain aspects of the game, it is not indicative of the final release. From what I understand the CBT is just for PVP balancing and load testing and to find game breaking bugs, it's not for a preview of the game.
This is why the NDA is in place, it's a shame people are trashing a beta test when the game hasn't been completed.

Basically, I'm really liking what I see so far. It has a good UT deathmatch in your "Local Play" games, which are quick and designed for that. You can level up, buy equipment, get skills and improvements and such.
The CBT is specifically stated to be only a very small part, as mentioned earlier. There's a taste of PvE in the game right now, but the main PvE hub isn't in yet - that'll be coming when we get access to the city.
There's also going to be large-scale massive PvP battles, which are supposed to be the main scope of the game. Judging Huxley based on what's in-game right now would be like judging WoW based soley off arenas, or even more closely, like judging Guild Wars based off the quick PvP battles you can do - with GW, there's a huge PvE side, and the PvP gets much more epic - the same will be the case here.
game looks like some terrible, mutated clone of UT3.
Also, does anyone here know how to access their forums? Because as far as I can tell your player account and a forum account are separate things, seeing as how when I go there I'm getting a "You need to register" message despite the fact that it says "Welcome, Dartboy" at the top of the forum thing where you'd expect. And trying to register doesn't work, since my email account has already been used (no shit, since I signed up for their beta test).

as far as registering etc, I don't recall having too much trouble although it took a couple days before I could see the CBT forums.
I just click the little forum button and it works

I'll def update with faction and names of characters on server, but we are still under a heavy NDA so can't really post specific details. Besides, it would be unfair to post info on the game as it is very much beta and a lot is missing, the devs have made it very clear this is mainly a stress test and a balance test for pvp.

Was vaguely surprised to see all the areas are identical, outside of name changes.
Races barely play/feel any differently either.
CBT2 is going to be starting in two days (the 30'th), and apparently it's going to be using the full client instead of the Lite one. You'll have to fully re-download it, so it sounds like you can go ahead and chuck your old client.
