Popular, possibly true myth around here: Since the beginning of Ghostbusters was shot on the Columbia University campus, we get a small portion of the royalties. Since the administrators of CU didn't expect it to be a particularly successful movie, they wrote the contract so that the the royalties from the movie would go into the two big lawns in the center of campus. The movie was naturally...well Ghostbusters. So, to this day, those are the most frequently sodded and manicured lawns in New York.

this seems a little less involved than I remember

I remember there being some kind of fireman's pole/elevator deal going in there somewhere.

From my vague memories of the tiny picture on the back of my Ghostbusters toys.

You turn the red platform upside down and the fire-pole becomes a sword!

Ecto Cooler was the fucking best thing.

EDIT: Oh my god the firehouse. I had that, and the Ecto 1 and Janine's haunted VW Bug that turned into a monster. And the kid-sized proton pack and the trap and man I love Ghostbusters.

    yesss

I had several. And the show was great.

They were basically the dude's Polly Pocket but instead of going to a mall you fought giant spider-zombies in a skull or snake-men.

Man after they blow the containment unit and the guy gets in the cab and says "let's not dawdle ok?" and the driver is a skeleton with goo on his face, when I saw that as a tot I was TERRIFIED.

Otherwise this movie rules. Completely and totally rules. Everything about Ghostbusters is unstoppably awesome.

This is still the only movie I watched more than twice in the theater. I had my dad take me to see it three times, at least. And I do feel old, I was five then.

Did anyone else have one of those ghost cans where the label glowed in the dark and the can said that you should never open it because there is a ghost inside?

    What a horrible product.

    A horrible and fascinating product.

Construx let me achieve this fantasy to a minor degree, I built a trap and a proton pack out of it right after I saw the 2nd movie.

    Until then; Hooray, Ghostbusters!

That ghostly librarian scared me as a wee 5 or 6 year old. Not as badly as Poltergeist when I was 7 or 8. That wasn't such a good idea.

The episode of The Real Ghostbusters where they get trapped in the Containment Unit and there are evil ghost-versions of themselves that hunt humans was pretty neat.
