And not just that, what I've read on certain forums there seems to be a huge number of people who either will absolutely, positively not group with ugly characters or at the very least won't have them in their guilds, because "when someone makes an ugly character it reflects poorly on their person".

Oh, you unique snowflake, you!
Also, how in blazes is the "standard" Korean MMO-ish look in any way like anime? Is it because some of them look asian? Because asian does not equate anime. At all.

Are you sure they don't mean the people that are say, making tiny characters, with the head size cranked to max and fidgeting with all of the sliders in an attempt to make something as weird-looking as possible?
Because in my opinion, those characters are as "amusing" as any xXxS3ph1r0tHxXx.

Ahahaha, if there ever was an MMO that had social status and cliques in it, Aion would seem to be the last one I could think of that would do this.
I mean you can fucking fly. Who gives if someone is not pretty in the face.
And no wren, those are not boobies.

There is an instructor in one of our programs here who was wanting to do a class on second life, I laughed my ass off and asked him if it was still 2003.

Second Life is a constantly growing thing dude. And there is a huge college presence on SL. I don't know why you are so adversed to it. You don't need to act like a dick to your instructor though.
I actually know of an instructor who was having difficulty teaching in the real world (She is confined to a wheelchair) so she opted to do SL classes instead.

Notice, I did not say "my" instructor. I said "one of our" as in. He is not my instructor, he just happens to work at the same college I do.
Second Life needs to die.
The fact that "There is a large college presence" on Second Life kind of confirms this. The Majority of colleges are always behind the leading edge of tech and get held up in red tape and bureaucracy before they can change their curriculum. If a new version of a program is released any given school will take atleast a year before their programs start to reflect this change.
Mostly due to money and man-power to get the updated software, have their instructors trained on it, and find a decent text book or guide book to teach from.
Second life is a dated piece of software that has hardly anything to do with anything other than itself.
It might have been relevant 6 years ago when it was some groundbreaking new thing but now its past due to fall to the way side for something better.

The Aion beta continues to amuse me.
Eyes forever focused, on the sanguine, metal dawn.

It looks like he glued a bunch of hair from the Korean MMO-esque characters to his chin to make a beard.
Game looks pretty, though.
Has Second Life not died yet?

It's posts like this what make me appreciate the finer points of having work filter stuff out.
You live a life blessed by sweet ignorance.
Or growing thicker skin, that helps too.
Oh my skin is pretty thick, Anime doesn't bother me much.
It's the furries that really get me though, and all the whispered dreaded evils that accompany them, like yiffing and fursuits and such.
