I have never lived in the midwest, I'm probably way too used to living within a few hours' drive of the coast to like it
you can live on a fuckin' river, it's like living near the coast only it doesn't smell as bad and the people are smarmy pricks!
living on a river is a poor approximation of living near or on the sea in too many ways for me to explain
I don't think I'd ever be happy if I had to live in the interior
what kind of shitty otter are you
the marine environment has so much more to offer than a river

the midwest is pretty alright, but fffffuuuuuck the weather. I have lived in the western chicago suburbs my whole life aside from the past year, I lived outside of toronto for school. both places are pretty cool

so I just type in this box and it goes on the screen?
I've driven through enough of the middle America to know that I am going to end up in a shore state. I love dat ocean (although Santa Fe is pretty neat).
also my very recent ex-girfriend's ex-boyfriend (they dated for three years) just told her she either has to be dating him/working towards dating him or not part of his life
ugh.

Man we're shitting up the North Korea thread with our gun talk when it clearly belongs in here.
The south has its charms. It's got wonderfully unique food, interesting people and a nice climate. Sadly the food will give you heart disease and the people are often retarded.

A lot of hispanic kids I know here in New Mexico have never left the state (never left the state, guys) and a friend of mine at school has lived in New York his whole life, has never been further west than Ohio and has never been on a plane.
I can't even believe.
Travelling is expensive! Why is this hard to believe.
I do not understand how one goes 18 years without saving the, oh, thirty dollars it takes to get to another state.
I don't expect people to visit every state or anything, but I don't understand being able to go 18 years without saying "hey, I'd like to take three hours and roughly double my scope of the world."
Not having left a state isn't that bad. What is terrible is people who have never been to another city. It has happened.
Not as bad but still sad to me is people who have never moved from one city to another.
the south would be better if they stopped letting the stupid people be so vocal
This is true. Here in Louisiana we have a weird mix of urban liberal (New Orleans), super-conservative (northern part) and Catholic Cajun-descended (southern part). The stuff like the "educational freedom" (creationism) bills start in the northern part, but still somehow get passed.

I was kicked out of a local schoolboard meeting when they were discussing a bill to teach creationism, not even intelligent design but full blown "the bible says" creationism, in their biology classes. I signed up for 2 minutes to speak, and when it was my turn I simply suggested that it was OK to teach creationism in science classes as long as the local churches allow scientists to teach concepts like evolution during their Sunday school classes. It was great.
I've only lived in Michigan. Up North is awesome as is the UP. If I every get rich I am going to buy a house on a lake in northern Michigan and just kick it for the rest of my life.
I'm moving to Austin pretty soon so my girlfriend and I went down there to get an apartment last weekend. It's sort of weird going to Texas. Culturally it's very similar to Kansas, minus all the "everything's bigger in Texas" bullshit, but really it kind of reminded me of going to another country.
They have everything we have down there, but it's just a little different and most people talk funny. Austin seems to be a pretty kickass city though. It reminded me of the town I lived in during college but with a bigger and crazier bar district. Which makes sense.
Also it's hot as hell down there.

Austin has been described by Patton Oswalt as a magic fairy-bubble of sanity in the middle of a pile of shit.

living in Georgia means being about an hour from the beach but, thanks to the barrier islands, never getting hit by hurricanes
there's great food, polite people, history and great cities
anyone who talks about the "Deep South" like it's some 1930s era "Darkest Africa" is mega ignorant
Whatever redneck. Go fuck your kinfolk and not shower.

That thread had turned into a reeking cesspit of stupid, the gun talk made it so much better.
