I have a metric ton of English change

So I'm nearing the end of my excursion to England, where I've been living for a month, and I have a HUUUGE amount of coinage left over. I haven't seen any of those big things you can dumb coins into and they'll spit out dollars though. Is there an easy way to get this converted back to pounds or even better dollars before I get on the plane back to the states?

Have you tried looking for a currency exchange place? They'd do it, for a very very small fee.

They'll do that for coins? I did not know this. They usually have those in airports, and I'll be at Heathrow, so I can't imagine it'd be an issue to find one.

Have you tried a bank yet?

You could go to coinstar.com and put in your postcode. It'll tell you where the nearest machine is.

Banks and Currency exchanges usually want change to be bagged, but it's worth asking.

They won't be too happy about it but I've personally done exchanges in the U.S. with coins easily enough.

A lot of currency exchange places won't exchange coins when going certain ways currency to currency. I can imagine this behaviour becomes even more common when you're exchanging all coins.

I've never been able to exchange coins in any currency exchange at an airport.

I suggest going to the bank. Most banks will do exchanges for you.

Count it out in change bags and take it to a post office. They charge by far the smallest amount.

most of the big supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsburys) have coin counting machines now. You take your stuff there, pour it into the machine, and it gives you the money (minus like 3% for counting it)

If you're near a big supermarket, go check it out

The % take on those Coinstar machines varies depending on where it is. I've seen machines that take 20p off every £ you put in, and ones that only take 3p per £. If the number's a massive amount (or you're even bothered about it) go to the bank, get some bags and bag it up. You'll at least then get 100% of what you put in back.
