Inspired by the amazing mods thread and my recent playthrough of Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings (I'm a licensewhore), I've been craving 3d games where you can beat the holy hell out of enemies with the environment and weapons. The latest Indy game is a mixed bag at it's best, but it is the very definition of entertainment to slam an enemy into an aquarium and then take out his friend by throwing a squid at him.
I also had a good time with Jet Li's Rise to Honor, so I'm obviously not looking for objectively "good" games. No, these are the games that let you beat the everloving crap out of an enemy for no damn good reason.
Outside of Indy, I'd also put Riddick into this category. Punches feel like they have weight, even if the environment never really becomes a factor.
Mount&blade is win for medieval combat. You usually will be on a horse which leads to happiness when you impale someone with a lance at full speed. Also a hell of a lot of different mods.
Rune, God Hand, Oblivion, Drakken (ps2) and any Max Payne with Kung Fu mod.
That last one is especially satisfying. Running off a wall only to drop on someone slow down time and kick them in the face after a backflip is just awesome when you do it right.
edit: For Oblivion you kind of handicap yourself, but it can still be satisfying. The Gothic series always had strange but interesting melee as well in my opinion, mind the bugs.
DMC4 has a pretty awesome combat mechanic going on (just getting to grips with Dante now, finally beginning to see how he works in comparison to Nero). If you've got a decent PC it also had a really awesome port.
Prototype. Hands down. Incredibly satisfying. As seen on the front page, you can FLYING KICK A HELICOPTER. Eventually you can gib people by punching them.
I second Oni for h to h combat. There's also a pretty old game called Severance: Blade of Darkness, which has really fucking visceral medieval-esque combat. Grab the Gladiator/Arena mods for it to just set up duels without having to play through the whole game. You also want to use one of the difficulty mods to reduce how much damage you take from enemies (by default they do something like 200% more damage to you than the weapon's default, whilst you do about 75% to them).
I second severance though the bastid CD won't work on my PC anymore. Darn.
Also, Breakdown was fantastic, think Riddick only better melee. Shooting was pretty shitty. It was also good at making people nauseous thanks to its weird FOV. Then there's Condemned which is insanely good. Hitting someone with a 2x4 never felt so real...... 'Cept for that one night hanging with the boys.......... yeah.
You could get around to the back of the wrestler guys really easily. The ones who are basically super tanks.
Back break, move on.
Really? I thought they were supposed to be unaware of Konoko for her to be able to use it. Anyway the wrestler guys were one of the easiest characters to play as, since half their goddamn moves made them temporarily invulnerable to attack.
Also, how awesome was being able to switch to any character in the game, all of which could be played with their proper moves, combos etc etc.
Almost. You could only switch to those characters if they were actually present in the level.
Also: van de graff gun + backbreaker = win.

DEVIL-SPINN-KICK!
Two other great things about Oni - the move dedicated to kicking dudes straight in the balls, and the side-step+spinning jump-kick move. Once I'd mastered that one, I had endless fun with guys charging at me, missing, then getting kicked in the back of the head.
Good to see so much love for Oni here. A little while ago I downloaded something called Oni Custom Edition, which is a mod that makes it far more moddable, but the reason I got it is it unlocks every move from the first level. Which is absolute win.

Edit:
Great minds etc.
Mostly for the kicks.

Really I think this should just be the whole thread.
God Hand.
Mad World's not bad either.
And the kung fu mod for Max Payne
Shame about the rest of the game though. They really could have used some work on the level design.
and an actual ending would have been super, too
apparently the mod scene for it is just taking off now
Your opinion is wrong and also dumb.
But DM was pretty good. Could have used a sandbox/gladiator-style mode though.

You say that like someone is going to trust someone with a numbername.
Including godhand moves.
The sounds is just so fucking wrong.
RISING FURY
HAMMERPUNCH (?? might have forgotten that one)
The best part was when it seemed to glitch and you did a backbreak in the middle of a fight, even though it's not supposed to work that way.

Bah, most of them appeared on in-level cutscenes anyway.
BIGHEAD CHEAT!
Also extra cheats like jetpack and whatnot.
Woah, woah, woah.
Whut.
