I need a new breakfast.

Pop-Tarts and milk aren't doing it for me anymore.

I need something more filling, and something more tasty.

It also needs to be an on-the-run thing because I get ready for work in about 20 minutes.

Any advice? Use examples of what you eat.

NINJA EDIT: Do not say "Don't eat breakfast" because that doesn't help me.

And "Don't eat breakfast" is terrible advice to boot.

Anyways, if I'm in a rush I usually get some pineapple, coffee and a kaishi bar. Love me some pineapple.

Don't turn down eggs, they cook in minutes, and eat just as fast.

I'm a sucker for fried eggs on some toast, top with some cheese and ketchup, and a meat of your choice (you can cook eggs and ham (or canuk bacon) at the same time!) and you can just eat the sandwich on the go. The eggs don't get runny and it all stays together fairly well.

Also, cereal is a decent option as well. Quick and usually does the trick. Get some of the shredded wheat kinds, they always seem more filling. I hear good things about kaishi cereal too, though it can be a little more expensive.

    Hard-boiled eggs are pretty good.

Also I've never been a fan of normal Pop-tarts, but the Fiber-One brand of poptart (whatever they're called) are a lot more satisfying and long-lasting in terms of making you feel full.

I guess you guys missed the "on the run" part?

When I was pressed for time, I used to have breakfast pitas. They're basically small, really thick pitas that come in a range of flavours. I mostly stuck to cinnamon raisin. You can put them in the toaster or just eat them "raw." I usually had a glass of OJ and a yogurt as well.

Also look into cereal bars. Not the nutragrain crap, but actual bars made of the cereal you would normally eat. They have bran and also the sugary types as well.

Even normal porridge oats are edible after 2 minutes in the microwave.

You can prolly cook and eat eggs before the toaster is done with a poptart.....
    Just sayin...

Or boil eggs while in the shower.

Just stroll down the freezer isle at your local supermegamart and pick some crap out. Nuke it and go.

I've been on a trail mix kick lately. Lots of cereal (cheerios and some Oat-granola stuff) raisins, dried fruit, pumpkin seeds, peanuts and cashews, some chocolate or reeses pieces. mix it all up in a big zip lock bag and in the morning I just grab a cup and scoop some out of the bag.

On the weekends I make a stack of home made breakfast burritos and toss them in the freezer. When ready to eat, simply remove plastic wrap, cover in paper towel and nuke for 2.5 min. Really easy and can be somewhat good for you.

I'm assuming this guy has zero preperation time if he has 20 minutes in the morning.. which would be hardly enough for me to shower and shave let alone get dressed, fed, and out the door.

Consider hard boiling eggs the night before and putting them in the fridge.

Boil like 12 eggs on Sunday and eat 1/2 of them every morning. They'll last 5 days easily.

Wake up 5 or 10 minutes earlier and make oatmeal, throw on some raisins. Yum. Don't buy the instant microwave crap that is full of sugar.

I eat cereal and a whole banana wrapped in a pita and slathered with peanut butter and jelly. The latter can be made in advance the night before, though it only takes a minute to make anyway.

I do a bagel with peanut butter almost every day. It's a pretty good calorie boost in the morning, portable and only takes a minute or two. I usually shower, pop the bagel in the toaster, get dressed, apply topping and go.

A good way to fix this would be to start waking up 30 minutes earlier and take your time. Every now and again I'll give myself an extra 20 minutes and make a good solid breakfast with eggs and bacon, most of the time combining these with a bagel to make a tasty sandwich and my day is significantly better.

Remember the only thing putting time constraints on your is yourself. This is unless you are getting off a nightshift and going to another job.

I eat this in 10 minutes (prepare to finish) in the mornings, with some eaten on the drive:

At house: Quaker Oatmeal High Fiber (1 bag), Cranberry/Pomegranate Juice, 3 Strawberries
    In car: Banana, finish Cran/Pomegranate

You can eat the strawberries in the car/on the way if that's easier, but i peel the banana before starting, usually finish it by the time I get out of my apartment complex.

    Toasted everything bagel
    Sliced tomato
Mayo / Dijon depending on your likes
    Ground pepper

Takes like 10 seconds to make (other than the toasting a bagel), tastes delicious and gets you a good hunk of fruit / veggies, grains, and flavour first thing in the morning.

My grocery store has some that are in the refrigerated section, and they last quite a bit longer than the room temp variety to keep them from spoiling so quickly.
    or thats the theory anyways

Put any type of bagels in the fridge and they will last longer. Any bread, for that matter.

Wait until a day or two before the "best before" date though, because refrigerated baked goods aren't as moist/fresh.

I have a bunch of grocery stores around me and all sell a pretty decent bagel... usually you can get room-temp varieties in 4-6 packs depending on who makes them for $1.49-3.99 depending on the quality.

Local bakery bagels will taste better, but don't have the preservatives that help them keep for a week or longer so grabbing a national brand will tend to keep longer. Country Harvest Bagels (if you can get them) come in a ziploc bag that helps them keep a bit longer, 6 bagels run you about $2.49-2.99 here.

If you're toasting your bagels it doesn't really matter if they slide a little on the stale side - they still come out tasting great.

For cheese, I'd go with something with a bit more zip than Mozza... maybe a nice old Cheddar would round out the bagel-wich.

Peanut Butter on toast (good bread).

Two slices holds me until lunch, and it can be eaten on the go.

Anything on a bagel will also do.

The best item for breakfast success? Hot-dog buns.

Specifically the dutch potato-roll kind. They taste as good as a bagel and keep a long time. You can toast them and add anything (tuna, peanut butter, bananas, cheddar, eggs, anything). They are pre-sliced, so tossing whatever in it and/or toasting it is all the time you need. They fit easily in your hand on the way out the door, or in a ziplock. They can easily used for breakfast lunch and dinner.

I discovered this years ago after a horribad pay period that wiped out my savings with various bills and medical expenses. All we could afford for a week was hot-dogs and ramen, though we had jellies, peanut butter, canned tuna, etc in storage.

It wasn't a bad week at all.

I'm assuming "on the run" doesn't mean "what can I make in 10 minutes for breakfast?"

Because fuck.. in 10 minutes you can make anything for breakfast. I can cook up a steak in 10 minutes. I can make pancakes in 10 minutes. I can make you a Denver omelette in 10 minutes.

This guy is currently eating pop tarts on the way out the door in the morning because he doesn't have the time to cook anything. Besides the advice of "get up earlier," I think he wants suggestions on things that you can just pick up and eat right away in the morning--not how to cook a bacon and egg breakfast.

    So far,

    Bagel and cheese/jelly/peanutbutter/whatever

    Pre-made hard boiled eggs

    High quality cereal bars

    Yogurt

    Breakfast shakes

Agh, my post got eaten by a database error. If I'm in a real hurry I make an easy breakfast sandwich (like an egg McMuffin pretty much):

    1 egg
    1 english muffin
1 slice of cheese (processed I guess if you're in a real hurry)
1 piece of bacon or sausage patty

    healthier:
    egg white from 1 egg
    1 whole wheat english muffin
    1 slice low fat cheese
    1 piece of turkey bacon

    1. Heat pan
    2. Stick english muffin in toaster (I just warm mine as I don't like crunchy english muffin)
    3. whisk egg/put egg white into greased small round microwavable container
    4. microwave egg for around 45 seconds
    5. put cheese on english muffin, egg on top, set aside
    6. By this point pan is heated, cook your bacon or whatever
    7. By this point your cheese is nice and melted, put bacon/whatever on top of egg, top piece of english muffin on top and eat!

I can make this in less then five minutes, the egg doesn't usually run (doesn't at all if just using egg white) and being a sandwich you can eat while on the move!

Putting in another vote for hard-boiling eggs in advance. A good breakfast should include some solid protein, and if you make 'em ahead of time there is absolutely no preparation necessary - just peel and eat. If you want more, grab a banana or an apple.
