Left groceries out all night - safe to eat?

I did a little shop after work, and in my haste to get to bed I left a couple items on the counter from about midnight until just now (10:40AM-ish). Namely cream cheese and a carton of eggs. Are they safe to eat, or should I toss them?

I would guess the eggs are safe. The cream cheese, maybe not. Depends how hot it was in your place. It's cheap enough to replace anyway. Why risk it?

Should be fine. If it was milk or meat I'd say no.

Eggs should be fine. Cream cheese I would be highly suspicious of.

Cream cheese is closer to butter than to milk, and it's OK to leave butter out (in a dish, not just exposed to the air). While I wouldn't suggest you to dive in, if it's a sealed tub of cream cheese it should be OK being out for, what, 8 hours? Break the seal and give it a smell -- if it smells at all sour, it's bad, but it probably will just smell like cream cheese.

    Cream cheese will be fine.

The eggs are probably fine too, but if you're worried throw them out.

Both should be ok. Smell test to make sure. If the cream cheese is gone off, there wont be any question when you crack the seal and sniff. I've personally left both out longer on accident and they've been ok.

As everyone has said, they'll both be fine. It's probably not going to last nearly as long as the expiration date on the cheese suggests, but you should be okay.

Both will be fine. Cheese isn't going to go off in that sort of time, and eggs don't really need to be kept refrigerated anyway, unless you plan on keeping them for a month+.

In shops in the UK, they have to keep eggs at room temperature.

yeah, that was one thing I found weird when I came here. My grandparents were all like 'fridges make them taste off.' I'm was all like, 'sure.' Found out it's true...

LOL, leave the eggs out for a month...or two...and they might go off! Eggs keep amazingly well. They don't need refrigerating at all.

Here is a handy tip - if you have eggs past their sell-by date, put them into a bowl of water (enough to cover the eggs). If they float, they are bad (due to the build-up of gasses inside the shell).

Cream cheese is probably fine, but best to eat it quickly. Dairy products go off easily.
