Man, those Metalsmith Guild armor recipes look so awesome... but a Medium Crest and a Ruby Shard? Holy shit. Gonna take 5-6 more days just to get acquaintance, and then another 10-12 days just to get the Crests... yeah... probably not going to happen :-/
I figure by the time I can make that set I'll have moved on to another tier.
Also fuck this game for making purple item coloring so common.
Everytime I see it my heart leaps. Stupid conditioning from wow.
They're blue in WoW, I usually liked finding blues in WoW...

Scholar is also useful for making dye (I can dress you in all the colours of the rainbow), scrolls of battle/warding lore (I can make ones that give +5% dmg or -5% incoming dmg for the whole Fellowship), hunter bowstrings and light and fire oil.
Besides the potions and crafting scrolls these are all things you will continue needing until the end of time.

IIRC in a lot of cases the Guild Armor at a previous tier is actually better than a lot of the non-Guild Armor available on the next tier.
The level 58 single use crit armor is pretty good too.
Yeah for dual wielders the crit teal weapons are great off hands for a legendary main (or shield users same deal). Cloaks can be better than what you get from quests though there are some nice freaking quest items.
Also the teal upper jewelery is great until you can get some massive upgrades. Turbine made sure to have "entry" level stuff easier to get so you can run instances without feeling gimped. For the most part gear isn't as important as player skill. It helps but lack of skill will kill you a lot faster than not having purples/teal.

I don't doubt. When I hit 20 I crafted all the one use recipe heavy armors for my self, and the only piece I've found a quest replacement for was my chest piece, which is just slightly better than the one I crafted. So I'm level 29 using level 20 armor because of how badass it is.
I swear whatever class I like has to have the biggest gripers. Now that I've moved from the burg to the warden thread upon thread is whining about wardens and uselessness. I hate that WoW mentality, jesus just because you have to wait a second doesn't mean a class sucks, or that you aren't getting optimum dps, fuck sake its a game HAVE FUN! Number crunchers ruin a fucking mmo. I don't care what I do isn't the most efficient route, did everyone live? Yes were we able to make it through in a decent time? Yes, WELL THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP!

This isn't as true as it was prior to the releveling of crafted items in the last patch. It used to be that Guild armor was the best upgrade for Guild armor. Now, since the Guild items have had their levels bumped up (27 became 31, 35 became 41, etc.), it will often turn out that a critted item of the next level up will be somewhat of an improvement. e.g. higher armor value, but worse +stats. Even more so with weapons, since in many cases (especially when leveling) DPS is what most people care about, with +stats being a nice bonus.
Do any of you bother with Jeweler's Guild? The only worthwhile recipes seem to be the Sublime Dawn-Rose set. I've got an alt making steady progress through the rep grind, but I'm wondering if it'll be worth the bother.
I do have to say I love the change to the crafting system for crit stuff. It was retarded before farming hawks for claws or some dumb ass thing to get a trophy. Now you can just hit the nodes you use for that profession and get the drops, how pleasant!
Also I swear they added tiers of crafted gear because I don't remember a 38 weapon tier (I remember because when I leveled my guard it sucked waiting till the 40 upgrade from the 25.

It used to be that there were two levels per tier, basically amounting to the recipes you received when you opened the tier, and the recipes available from that craft's vendor. Recipe drops were either sidegrades of the lower level recipes (e.g. "heavy" versions that often didn't have different stats), or one-shot versions of the purchased recipes, with Guild recipes being guaranteed crits of the one-shots.
Now, there are four levels per tier. The recipes granted upon access to the tier are the lowest, followed by the purchased recipes, followed by the normal recipe drops, followed by the one-shots (with Guild recipes still being guaranteed crits of the one-shots).
Also, the crit item change is mostly for the better, except I have issues with Flax fibers. Previously, a tailor's "resource node" was a hide-bearing creature. Often, tailor's crit items were drops from these same creatures, e.g. warg tails. Now, there's either a minuscule chance of one dropping from a humanoid, or a supposedly* slightly less minuscule chance of one dropping from a wood node, neither of which have much relevance tailors. While this doesn't seem to have severely impacted the AH yet (except to make flax the most expensive crit items by far), there's a good chance that it will lead to further depression of wood prices as tailors gather vast quantities of wood, in the hopes of finding flax, and dump the raw materials on the AH.
*Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that there's something wrong with the drop rates of flax. I don't have enough data to run a meaningful statistical analysis yet, but my own observations run something like one fiber per 70 logs, or about 1 in 30 nodes, versus resin drops of 1 in 10 nodes. Again, small data sets, margin of errors are still large, and I'm wary of using anyone's reported numbers on the fora, because there's a selection problem there. Still, something to watch.

Oh I got that, I'm not complaning about what they are, I'm complaining about the brief flutter of excitement I get that far outshines any excitement from a blue in wow, then me correcting myself with, it's just a rare calm down. Also purple drops of any thing occur more than blues in wow, say rock salt or something. All elicit the holy shit response.
For the first two hours of the game I was excited about intestines.
Maybe I'm just lucky with my flax fibers, I tend to get them more than resins. Just things that I use resins for I don't have to crit as often (Like if I'm crafting up gear for my warden I need like 5 min flax, where as weapons I'd only need 2) And its usually double that or more for actually getting the crits. At least wood sells well to a vendor and they increased the stack size.

Logged back in yesterday to take inventory of things...I wasn't aware they changed the experience to level, so it was nice getting my LM instantly from 47 to 49
My captain's still sitting at 44, so I might get them both to 50 before continuing through Moria....decisions. Good to see the guild active again though.

First thing you should do is do the introductory quest in Rivendell for a nice teal pocket item. After that you should head to the camp in Eregion next to Moria and do the book quests there, at the end you will receive your legendary items. After that: if you haven't, run through Eregion. Start at the Eastern camp and enjoy the smooth experience while gaining a few levels. Or head right into Moria and enjoy volume 2.
I recommend doing eregion at the very least. One does not simply walk into Moria, there are lots of goblins and orc in the deeps and they tend to be rather close to each other.

I found Eregion to be a bit of a whore, as it were. That meaning, I was completely fucking bogged down with fellowship quests for which I could not find a group no matter how long I tried. I ended up skipping at least 50% of Eregion because of this.
The only fellowship quests in Eregion are the forest troll ones in the east and the Library/School ones in the south. Everything else is pretty much solo content or if you're weaksauce duo-able..

Yeah honestly, maybe you're thinking of some place else? Eregion doesn't have really any group, and even the ones in the southwest are small fellowship and the forest trolls can be completed the same.

How many people are recommended for Fellowship quests anyway? I see some people trying to get full/next to full groups for Post-Intro and Bree stuff, but when I got a buddy of mine to help me with Jagger Jack (something I had seen many people in LFG for) I ended up two shotting him (Ambush followed by a huge "hit them when they're down" crit.).
I understand that these sort of quests will get harder, but are they generally doable by a tank/heals (Warden, RK) duo or do the higher level ones actually require a full group?
Bree was changed, all the supposed group quests are not a group quest at all. Once you get into the lone lands, straight fellowship quests (the ones with a tri of people) are best done with 4 to 6 people, with any group instance quests 6 is best (obviously dependent on level if a 50+ is running you through for most of the old world quests they are sufficient).
Actual instances need 6 people if you are of level.

Yep. This was my favorite zone. A lot of the deeds are also fairly easy to get with the general questing since the quests seem to never end. The troll cave is pretty damn hard though. I would recommend getting a 60 to come along and help. I tried it with a captain + rk duo when we were at the correct level and we got slaughtered.
My fiancee and I have been duo-ing most fellowship quests. Takes a while longer, but most are doable. There are always a few quests though that require more.

Well it depends, you can just outlevel them and then wittle them down, especially with a tank and healer class. My wife and I did that on our tank ministrel before we gave them up. Some are just too hard though because they overwhelm you. Especially escorts.

The library/school ones and the troll ones were what I was talking about. There seemed to be a lot of them, and back when I gave a shit about questing in Eregion, I tried for days to find groups for them, and got no responses. Literally zero. It's one of the things that have been pissing me off about LOTRO for a long time, the impossibility to find a group most of the time. Of course all that has been rectified now that we've got a decent amount of capped characters in TBS.
Maaaan I must be a really casual player. I've been playing almost a month now and I'm only at level 18 I think.
I really really like the game, it's the only MMO I've ever stuck with past a couple days, but I have so little time to play it. I'm gonna start taking my laptop to work though, I've got like 2 hours a day now where I do nothing since my schedule changed, and Imma get me some gaming on.
How is it that I've mined every barrow-iron and rich iron deposit I've come across and I have sooooo much rich iron but only about half that much barrow-iron. Oh well, guess I'll be buying some barrow-iron off the AH so I can master journeyman.

That's because you're on an low population server in a mini-kin with half the population sitting in the Prancing Pony playing ABC-files.

I've reactivated my account three or four times since launch, playing a month or so at a time, and my sole character is like level 32. If you're a casual player progression in LOTRO will be extremely slow - this game favors the power gamer IMO.

I'm nearing 60 with playing roughly 30 minutes per night and once every few weeks an instance run of ~3 hours. This game favours people who can plan with others to play together for big quests.
The wife and I were all set to get our LOTRO on after our dance lesson last night, and came home to find no dial tone. The road workers have managed to dig an excavator through our phone line. >.<
Supposedly it'll be fixed today, but I'm less than confidant.
