Introduction?

Hi Folks,

I don't know if this is the kind of message board where new members introduce themselves, so if this is a faux paus, I apologize.

I'm new here - the name's ResidentSleepwalker (due to the cuts I mysteriously find on my elbows in the morning after I stumble out into my parking lot to check the mail at 4 a.m.)

I'm 23, I live in Arizona and I work in finance.

I've been drawn to your corner of the interwebs by this "Help/Avvice Forum." I've always dug message boards, and have been a regular on one for a few years, though it's been overtaken by negativity and mean spiritedness, so I figured it was time for a change. I'm sure I'll get to know you all through posting more.

A few questions for you folks - roughly how many "regulars" are there who post on a daily basis? And, is it a different crowd in each sub-fourm? (Different people in literature than say, help and advice?)

Thanks folks, look forward to joining your community!

It isn't that kind of board.

Generally no, new members just show up, try to blend with the crowd, and avoid drawing undue ire. :P

Regulars? I'd say "a shitload" just based on the speed of threads in forums such as G&T (Games and Tech) D&D (Debate and Discourse) and of course, SE++ (don't ask, don't tell). There are absolutely different crowds for each forum, but most of us post in more than one location - it's not an exclusive crowd. The "SE++ only" crew is, uh, unique, and probably more towards your "typical message board" fare.

    So, uh. Welcome?

Yeah when there is a new TF2 patch that thread can get 300 pages a day.

People tend to lurk, then post if they have something to add. Each sub-forum has its own tone and spirited regulars.

There are thousands of regulars all tolled, and more than 30,000 users (maybe more, that number is from some time ago) which is why almost nobody intro's themselves, as it's akin to walking through a small city introducing yourself to everyone you meet.

That being said, hey hows it going, welcome to PA.

Don't just go starting new threads. Lurk for a while, see what is tolerated and what isn't in each subforum.

    Welcome.

But... but... I made so many friends when I walked around Paris, shouting at strangers in English!

Thanks for the greetings and advice. Much appreciated.

Oh, and get an avatar. That will help people identify who the hell you are better. I don't care what it's of, it just helps to have one that doesn't change every day, or not having one at all.

The best advice I can give is to lurk for a couple of weeks before you post in any threads. Your stay will be much longer and much more enjoyable if you do.

    And read the rules threads.

Even longer if SE++ seems to appeal to you. You'll be alright though - they haven't lynched anyone in quite a while.

Heh, people round this forum seem to introduce themselves with something like "I have these odd purple warts growing on my buttocks, any suggestions?" :P

I would recommend reading both the rules thread of any subforum you post in, as well as the rules in the "FAQ" link above. Rules like "don't make a 'hi, I'm new' thread," for instance.

I would also highly encourage lurking for awhile before you start posting.
