Since there was some interest in this idea in the D&D thread, I'm posting a recruitment thread for this idea.
What: A short little D&D 3.5e horror adventure/one-shot, with a twist. Everyone is a complete and total amnesiac. You all begin with no idea of your character's history, personality, or game qualities, and you must find your way out of the situation you find yourselves in. (I'm going to trend towards gothic horror for this.)
When: It's play-by-post, so a day or two after we get
five players who
can post once a day and are interested in
detailed character roleplaying. (I will be doing a good amount, if not all, of the bookkeeping. Effectively, narrative > rules by far for this.)
How: If you're interested, post saying so. As character concepts will be determined by me, including race and class, all you need to post is your preferred gender for your character. We'll need at least one girl and one guy.
Why: It'll be fun.
Who: Good question, in fact you could say that's at the heart of it all.
A predicate on rolling:
I'm going to be applying the standard d20 rule more broadly. Basically, whenever you attack someone or do anything that usually involves some sort of roll in 3e (climbing, making a pot of tea, so forth and so on), roll a d20 and provide the result in a spoiler. I'll substitute that for whatever's necessary inside the appropriate rules.
Posts
Anyways, I'm interested, and it doesn't seem like I'll need to know the rules that much.
Edit: I'll be male, if you don't mind.
Preferably a guy, although I'll be the lady if nobody else wants to be one.

Okay, I'll expand it to six and no more.
Please, please tell me that one of them will be male anyway.
That would be excellent.
Considering how highly gendered and archetypal gothic horror is, likely not.
Ah well. Probably better if it's going to be a serious game, anyway. Who all is playing (8 people signed up for 6 slots)?
Edit: And since this is gothic horror, as the man, I will be be sure to take charge and deny the women any property rights and education that they happen to remember. Before I am eviscerated. Just doing my duty.
More serious edit: I've only read Faulkner, so that's more Southern horror. I'm sure I can figure it out though, what with my preference for the Byronic hero.
Edit: Actually, I blame it on my lack of tea and sleepy-eyes.
Rerolling 4s:
1d8=2, 1d8=2
Rerolling the second 2:
1d8=8
Going in order by post, that gives us 1,2,3,4,6,and 8.
So that's Pyg, Laos, Interrobang, kuhlmeye, Gabriel, and Rainfall. My apologies to 3clipse and Hermenegilde, because i cannot fucking count.
Well....shit. I'm sad now.
Sorry buckos.
I don't even know who I am!
No, but I'm sorry we couldn't find out in the Mystery Amnesia Story.
Also yay I'm in!
No, but you seemed like a fine player and I wish I could take you all...
Hurrah, I've won a game of chance!
Edit: Whoever I am, I assume I am the one who dies first and doesn't have convenient Bourne-like special abilities.
By tossing your body at the werewolf or something.
Solemnly.
If only you knew. I've read Northanger Abbey. Be prepared for dramatic locks.
As a side-note, I'm expecting a certain degree of metagaming for a game like this in so far as it's fun to try and figure things out. Quite obviously, player and character knowledge are the same thing, but all bets are off to some degree. So, if you want to go analyzing the Realms thread for stuff you might think is applicable, have fun.
And, I'm not sure if I should know what to make of that.
Ahhhh
You awaken to find you are wearing your very own personal viking.
