UPDATE: Had the divorce hearing today with the judge. Took less than 3 minutes and got the final judgment signed. Its finally all over and it only took a little more than a year. Just wanted to say how awesome H&A was and how much y'all helped me.

<3

Hey all,

Im not sure if H&A remembers my thread about my ex-wife having a child, but here it is for reference: thread

Just wanted to keep you guys up on whats happening.

She gave birth the other day and he has blue eyes and blond hair. This is significant as I have blue eyes and blond hair and her and the other guy have brown eyes and black hair. She also swears that he has my nose. So it seems with prima facia evidence, that the child is mine.

We are still not doing a paternity test and she has already filled out her half of the paperwork regarding the child. Im meeting with the lawyer tomorrow morning to finish up my half and make everything official.

Hearing her talk about Ryan has unsettled me to a great degree and has me second guessing myself now.

But, also hearing about how happy the adoptive parents are is heartening to me and makes me realize that we are doing whats best for the child.

Im also going to the courthouse on Wednesday after my law final to turn in the packet for the dissolution of marriage. Unfortunately, her getting pregnant invalidated the previous paperwork, so we have to start from scratch. If all goes well, we should be officially divorced 30 days from this Wednesday.

I'll be sure to keep you all updated. Thanks for all the help.

Sounds like things are going well.

Don't assume it's yours because it's got blond hair like you - most white kids have blond hair when they are very young, and it darkens later into the final colour.

    What? I'd do a test.

For your own sake at least.

Right - same with the eyes being blue at a very young age, and turning darker later.

Hmm, good to know - never knew that

Im signing the paperwork today after breakfast and then it will be finalized - so no test needed.

This exactly. My boyfriend had blond hair and blue eyes (babies are born with blue eyes, as stated above) when he was a baby, now he has dark brown hair and dark brown eyes.

Edit: Good luck with everything. I hope it all goes smoothly.

In a situation like this I suppose there's always going to be a small amount of second guessing but in the end I think it is all working for the best. Take heart that the adoptive parents are so happy. It sounds like the baby is going to a pair that are eager to give their all for the little one.

As others have said though, I hope things go as smoothly as they can for you Spherick.

    Update:

The paperwork for the adoption is all signed and since the child is under 6 months of age, the signing of the papers (both hers and mine) is irrevocable and final. So as of this minute, that massive weight is off my shoulders. Apparently the family that is adopting the child is the favored family by the adoption center's director, who herself has 6 adopted children. So at least Ryan will have the best life he can get. Maybe i'll even sign up for the national registry so he can look me up if he wants.

Also met with Corrine to fill out all new paperwork and just need to go down to the courthouse tomorrow with her to sign the documents in front of the clerk and have them notarized. After that, we get a case number and then I call a number to set a date for the final hearing within 30 days. Going to make it ASAP and get this over and done with.

I think i'll take a picture of the final settlement and the adoption papers and post them here to finish this year long saga of crazy marital fun!

Again, you all have been wonderful every step of the way.

There's a reason they call 'em "those baby blues" or "baby blue eyes".

Might open up privacy shitstorm, would advise against this.

But posting that you have them, and by connection, some closure, seems a fitting chapter to me.

I was just going to post a picture of the top of the form, then the judges squiggly signature. I should hope im not stupid enough to post legal documents signed and executed on a public message board :)

I'll update again tomorrow after we go to the County Clerk and hopefully get a court date

Didn't you mention before that your wife was Mexican/of a Hispanic/Latino dissent? If so, then yeah, the the traits haven't kicked in yet (normally those take over, I would think). My mom is Black and my dad is Puerto Rican, both with brown hair and brown eyes. When my dad was born, he had blonde hair and when I was born I had green eyes.

    My eyes are now brown.

If I'm ever in the Tampa area, I really need to buy you a drink!

This sounds like a good idea. I have read that looking up their birth parents provides a lot of closure for adopted kids when they grow up.

Some experts think babies - of many species - bear little resemblance to the father for the first year or so of their life to reduce the risk of rejection by the father/alpha male in cuckold situations.

So, yeah, there's a biological reason why it resembling you at birth is pretty much irrelevant.

Is it not worth taking the dna test just to be sure? Might seem hollow if he comes looking in 20 years and you realise you've spent 2 decades thinking you have a son out there when he really isn't.

Honestly as of this morning, I have no rights over the child.

I have just as much right as you to ask for a paternity test at this point in time.

Only if the adoptive parents want one for medical history records will it happen, and even then - im not sure I want to know the answer.

Having those second thoughts should be a great incite as to what you want deep down inside of you. I'm not talking about being a parent now GOGOGO, but a part of you kind of went "awww, I could raise a kid!"
That said, you made your decision a long time ago for a very very very fucking good reason and you stuck with it. Nothing bad is happening here, maybe just something weird.
Congrats on the (easy?) divorce. They are rare.

Ditto glad to hear you got some resolution.
However I do have to mention my first daughter has dark hair and dark brown eyes with dark skin (my husband is half Brazilian)
My second daughter is extremely pale like freaking snow with blond hair and bright blue eyes.

My husband has dark hair and brown eyes. I have dark hair and hazel eyes. Sometimes kids won't look like their folks and they get their hair and eyes that match from your family line but not the folks.
Just wanted to throw that out there since I have 2 kids that look opposite :)
