it works best in 720p but it dose work in 1080p it just didnt desplay that well on my moniter (most likly cos it was not wide screen)
the build quality is not brillent. and i had to but a new plug (im in the uk and it came with a french one) and i had to get a vga male to male coupler. both where just a few quid from my local eletronics shop.
also i kinda desplayed a little bit dark you had to put the contrast and the colour up a bit.
ive seen alot of vga converters and most are wose than junk. this one is one of the best. but bare in mind nothing is brillent

HDFury2 is nice but expensive, I use it myself. Don't bother with their Gamma-X thing though, which just created dark bands for me. It takes the HDMI input and decodes it, and you can connect your audio to it too. Since it uses the HDMI input from the PS3, the quality might actually be better than component cable converters (or at least, I think there's some HDMI-specific display improvement settings in PS3) and I think it's necessary for 1080P with bluray.
But if you can just get a monitor with HDMI input, that's probably the easiest solution and costs about the same.

Edit: The settings are FULL RGB Colour (HDMI) and Super-White (super-white doesn't work for me, but the first one does)
