Going to Las Vegas. Recommendations?

So, I'm going to Vegas for Christmas, and I need some suggestions on resources for finding out what will be going on while I'm there. Specifically stuff like bands, comedians, other types of shows, etc. Or just fun stuff to check out in the area that I might not be aware of. I've only been there once before and I pretty much just stayed in the main part of the strip and didn't explore too much.

Any advice? Thanks.

My first question is how old you are. Ill assume that you are at least 21, if not I have a feeling that Vegas will be pretty booring for you because you pretty much have to be 21 to do anything there.

To find out information on what shows are going on id look up the major casinos online. Im sure they have an upcoming events section you can check out.

I'm 24, and I'll be going with my dad who is 60. He's interested in checking out museums and art shows, I'm interested in checking out bands and comedians. We're both interested in checking out any other random fun stuff we may not be aware of.

Although you did not ask for something like this, given the forum we're on I think it is appropriate to mention that the arcade in Luxor has an F-Zero AX machine with the moving cockpit, and it is in great condition (or was a few months ago). Given the scarcity of these things, if you have any interest I recommend you spend at least a few minutes there.

From a comedy perspective, the Comedy Stop at the Trop (Tropicana Hotel/Casino) was excellent the time I went, though there is a two-drink minimum. Good time, though, I think we saw three comedians, although none were name-brand.

Not sure it is something you and your dad would want to do, but there are a number of cirque du soleil shows in Vegas - O at the Bellagio was amazing, and La Reve at the Wynn is supposed to be comparable or better. I didn't think I would be interested at all but it turned out GREAT.

If either of you is into Star Trek you should go to the Las Vegas Hilton and go to Quark's Bar, check out their exhibit, etc.

I think you dad's age probably rules this out, but if the two of you like rides some moderate entertainment can be had if you go to Stratosphere; however this is pretty far from the strip proper.

If you're going to do a buffet, the breakfast buffet at the Paris is fantastic, expect a huge line though.

I tell everyone who is going that they should go to the Monte Carlo, which has a brew pub attached. Great if you like beer, but even if you don't they have this pizza bread appetizer that should be offered by every restaurant on this planet.

I would never go to a strip club with my dad, but if you would, I hear good things about Crazy Horse Too, and I've had good experiences at Cheetas and Jaguars (two separate clubs).

Enjoy your time in Vegas, I've never failed to have fun there.

Go see Love, the Cirque show at the mirage. Its based off of The Beatles best hits pretty much, and is freakin awesome. Eat at at least one buffet. Check out the Venetian shops and the Ceasars Palace Forum shops, go see the Bellagio water show, and if they are open go to the Mandalay Bay's outdoor pools, they are incredible.

I strongly suggest going to see the Blueman Group, they where amazing. Apart from that, you could easily devote a whole day to just exploring the strip.

I'm going to try my best to make it back there when i'm 21.

The Amazing Johnathan is a ridiculously funny and also very talented magician (although he tends to a bit more comedy than magic). He does a lot of off-color stuff, though, if your dad is offended by that.

Let's see, there's the Shark Reef, the Bodies exhibit, a few art exhibits at various hotels...uh...the Liberace Museum. I've also heard nothing but good things about The Amazing Johnathan. The Palms usually has a lot of neat things going on for the younger crowds, I would check there to see if there is anything there going on that you would be interested in. Most of the good stuff is on the Strip. Fremont Street is okay if you just stick to the Fremont Street Expierience...most everything else down there is nothing special.

    Dinner buffet at the Rio.

As far as just wandering and checking stuff out:
Luxor, New York New York, MGM (friggin huge) are all right on the same intersection, along with the Excalibur and Tropicana. Check out the Bellagio (check out the water show, as well as the art gallery). Also check out the Venetian, Paris, umm.. there's a few others.
The animal sanctuary at the Mirage is kind of cool (if a bit depressing). Also, just checking out the white tigers as you walk up the entryway.
The Forum shops at Caesar's Palace is a cool mall-type place.
There's a bar there called "The Beach" that is pretty cool (waitresses in bikinis whee).

    Lame touristy stuff:
    Treasure Island pirate ship show
    Mirage volcanos

I second the Blue Man Group show. It's the only show I've gone to there, and really enjoyed it. I've never been to Amazing Johnathan's show in Vegas, but I've seen him on TV a few times and he always kills.
