Army of Two: 40th Day (When is it NOT appropriate to fist pound?)
As a fan of the first game, I'm excited to see the direction they're taking the second.
Yes, the leads are macho fools, but they're endearing macho fools. And I firmly believe it *is* appropriate to fist pound and air guitar after killing hundreds of people. It's like those old school 80s action movies where the only thing the leads took seriously was their kill counts. Gun customization and general shooting mechanics were really fun. I never got tired bum rushing the last few terrorists, breaking necks, backs and faces with a vengeance.
You also have a lot more control over how much of a jerk your characters are. You can execute civilians for expediency, or save them.
As for the second game, action shooter set in a disaster movie definitely looks cool. Looks like they're going to be including a lot more ad-hoc modifications like coke bottle silencers.
im excited about this game, but hopefully theyre not toning down the ridiculousness too much. i mean pimping out your guns and whatever was stupid as hell but it had its charms.

We want our characters to be realistic...

WTF? Since when Army of Two have anything to do with realistic character design and building? God damn, I swear all these PR-bots and just reading the same script for every game they're hyping.
I hope they dont make it too realistic, i really enjoyed Army of Two because it was so off the wall and rediculous. Pimping out your guns and stuff, the innapopriate fist pounding, that stuff made me laugh. I enjoyed it for what it was a lot, and never regretted the day 1 purchase. I hope they don't change it too much !

Yes, this is what actually attracted me to the game. It was different and I thought it was very funny.

I take it you've never seen or read "Generation Kill," or books on PMCs. Rios and Salem really aren't THAT far out as far as believability goes.
Believe it or not, some soldiers really do act like that in the field (One PMC said in an interview essentially, "Thank God for this war, otherwise I'd be broke"). Soldiering is a dangerous, dirty business and some gallows humor goes a long way in keeping one sane. Especially when killing people is essentially your job.
Really, the uber-machoness is what helps make the game unique. In a cheesy action movie sort of way.
As far as the game goes, the set pieces look like they're going to be a lot of fun. And I can't wait to see what kind of crazy weapon mods you can do.
Also, the morality system should be interesting. Apparently you get little 'flashes' as to the results of your actions. If you kill a security guard for expediency for example, it'll flash as he's dying on his daughter he was supporting. The journalists said it was really effective, so I hope they have lots of those kinds of choices.

This.
Anyone who is a trigger-puller by trade that claims they don't have a hard-on for combat is probably full of shit. I wouldn't even call Rios and Salem uber macho. I played through half the game (because I could never find someone willing to beat it with me and I refuse to play by myself) and I didn't see anything that wasn't normal behavior-wise.
the one firefight where one of the guys starts talking about the wu tang clan in the middle of it was maybe the most incredibly wtf/hilarious moment in recent gaming history

I appreciate that's it's acknowledged ingame as more or less this. "WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ASKING ME THIS NOW?!"

There's supposed to be a lot more Wu Tang Clan type conversations in the game, especially if you're a total asshole and just kill everyone.
For example, if enemies take hostages, they're *assuming* you won't fire through them. Bullets have more penetration in this game. So if you don't care about civies you can just blaze away and take the enemies down.
Another option though might be to take the squad leader hostage and force the other guards to surrender, whom you can then cuff or execute as you wish (this is all in the developer diaries BTW).
The cutomization is refered to as Lego with guns, where you can really go nuts by putting any part of any gun on another, as long as they don't then get "blinged" that sounds pretty close to MGS4.
I for one can't wait to make an AK with a retractable stock, foregrip, drum mag and a coke bottle silencer
Maybe for a weapon or two, but I went through the game completely twice before everything everything was unlocked, and I still had to do a few more missions to pimp and upgrade everything else.
Best weapons:
S-System
AK-47
44. Magnum
P90
DAO-X
PKM
Stinger
DSR-1
S-System can pump out bullets all day and hit what you're shooting at even with blindfire, plus the 203 is awesome for heavies. The AK is an agro machine, the 44. is a one hit hand cannon. The DAO-X you can drop pretty much anything in a hit or two. PKM is death and it is the most useful gun for back to back. The DSR-1 will pick off fleas and will still drop a target. The P90? Well, I mean, come on, just LOOK at the thing. The stinger has more ammo than the RPG and can bring down air targets and heavies.
Honestly? I'm going to take the guns. What kind of an idiot tries to stop two heavily armed men, especially when they're not immediately hostile? Plus it looks like your enemies get the guns if you don't take them from the cutscene, and that likely means more dead Chinese.
These trailers are like a seesaw for my wallet. The comedy trailers make me want to get it on launch, while the grimdark trailers make me want to just buy Gears of War 2.

That's actually a lot how the first one played. Half the time you were laughing because they'd say the most ridiculous shit while drinking bullet-flavored milkshakes, and the other half you wondered if you were really supposed to care that Rios has a hacker friend, or why earpiece chick was so damned irreplaceable.
Heh heh, this is a really hilarious lets play that shows why the game is best played in Coop.
maybe not hilarious, but it's pretty accurate as far as what happens when you local multiplayer
teamwork + arguing about who is gayest + slapping each other
heck, it was fun watching my friends play local multi

Gamespot has the first hands on I've seen on the PSP version. Guess what? It's a twin stick shooter. Minus the second stick and using th face buttons for shooting directions. Isometric top down view, cover handled by shoulder buttons, exaggerated visuals.
I'm at a loss for words. If they wanted to go the isometric shooter path, I honestly think Killzone Liberation would be the model to follow, since it was incredible. I'll give this a chance, since I love a good, simple old school shooter, but wow... It's certainly not the way I would have imagined this game to be done on the PSP.
So I bought the original Army of Two for $10, since I think the sequel looks like it will be a lot of fun. Only to find out that my brother, who raved about the game, doesn't have it anymore, so I don't have anybody to play co-op with. Anybody want to get a game going sometime?

If just you and your buddy smoked over a hundred people trying to kill you then it is definitely appropriate to fist pound/chest bump/high five.

Flipping the bird might be an oldy, but it would be cool if you could flash the finger to enemies in the middle of a fire fight from behind cover.
That's sort of like flipping the bird to an orphan.
This.

Screw that. Where's the option to give him a gun and become an Army of Two and a Half? Short Round there looks like he's ready to pop some fools.
Can't wait till this comes out. I'm ready for more Army of Two fun.

This is a day one for me, the ability to play lego with guns and then use them to shoot mans is too much funtime happysmile.

You can use dead hippos for cover.
I foresee a lot of inappropriate humor, and I approve.

As long as the guns "feel" right, like in MGS4 where they felt solid
That kid is dying so hard
Or eaten, if I'm getting the vibe correctly from the guy on the right...
