X Fi Xtreme Audio - Mic boost and buzzing

KlykaKlyka DO you have anySPARE BATTERIES?Registered User regular
Hey guys, hope you can help me.

I have a X Fi Xtreme Audio and a bit of a problem with my mic (or rather, all mics I tried out):

When I enable the +20db mic boost, my mic has a great recording volume but it has terrible background sound/buzzing which lots of people in Ventrilo, ect. comment on.

However,if I disable the Mic boost, my mic is way too quiet, I have to literally shout into it from a very short distance.

Does anyone have an idea what to do about this?

Note: I had the same problem with my on board sound card before and I did try multiple Mics already, even from friends who don't have that problem.

No idea what to do about your card, sorry. But you might be interested in getting a USB headset. Bypasses the sound card entirely. I have a Logitech one and it works perfectly.

...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

I have the same card, and it doesn't buzz or anything with the mic boost on. Make sure that the mic is in the right port (it's not the red one) and make sure that there's no fans or anything near by. Oh, also make sure that the sample rate is set at a good one, mine's at 48KHz

    Wait, where's mic boost?

I had one of those, and while I didn't experience your exact problem I did find it to be an extremely dodgy piece of hardware overall.

Creative is never ever getting any money from me ever again.

check the condition of the mic port
if it doesnt get a good connection with the jack, itll make terrible sounds
might try wiggling it to see if it is damaged.
