It was a trap! X-Wing/TIE Fighter info not coming soon?
I always treated these as Interceptors w/ sheilds. I would dump shield power to engines and +1 to blasters and I'd be as fast a a T/I and never run out of laser charge.

What's really amazing is how much the X-wing series (and Dark Forces, for that matter) have impacted the canon of Star Wars. Hell, go check out the latest RPG book, the Rebellion campaign guide. 2 of the 5 experimentals are in there, for heaven's sake!
And you all suck. Bringing your starfighters to a dogfight. True pilots drive a tank like a starfighter!
...
The only X-wing game I've beaten is TIE Fighter, and I got all but 1 of the bonus objectives to boot. I had the full tattoo! Kept getting stuck in Alliance, you can't win XvT, and FUCK X-wing campaign 5!

X-wing vs. TIE Fighter was the big multiplayer one, correct? That's the one I've never played.
I'm imagining an empty void of space. Cold. Silent.
Suddenly the vaccuum is alive with screaming TIE Fighters and X-wings, each marked with some [PA] clan tag. Perhaps [WANG] or [TUBE] or something.

That ship looks like a giant set of cock and balls.
TIE Defender was my vehicle of choice. I played XWing a little, but I put Hours upon Hours Upon HOURS into Tie Fighter. Even got the extra campaigns, too.
I wish I still had a computer that could play that game. I've got the CDROM version that was released a few years back that I picked up for $10 at Best Buy...

I'm sure it'll be a rerelease of the old games on Steam. It'd be neat to see how well it can be played with a 360 gamepad.
Also, A-Wing forever. Small frame + lots of torpedoes is a winning formula. Pump weapons and shields to engines and go berserk until you run out of torpedoes, go to ramming speed, respawn, repeat.

By the by, am I the only person who would fly under the nose of a capship, clearing out turbolasers to get a safe place to park, and then launch heavy bombs at said capship?
It took me a long, LONG time to learn that momentum mattered with those suckers, and even moreso in Freespace/2.

petition to change thread title to "X-Wing/TIE Fighter: cumming soon"
consider me in the group of people requiring new pants.
I always was a fan of the B-Wing, though the A-Wing's my favorite, canon-wise.
And the Defender just looks so badass, and the Interceptor does too. Also the Advanced.

I also want to give a shout out to the original Trench Run.
None of this Rogue Squadron bullshit. It combined the Star Wars Arcade game catwalks with that dread feeling of knowing shit was behind you when the guns stopped firing. And to make matters fucking worse? When you dropped in the trench your maneuverability was cut by a dramatic amount and your speed was increased insanely high, until you made that stupid move of popping up out of the trench, overshot your laser dodge, and slammed into a wall while the turrets shredded you.
Only thing worse than that was the fucking annoying pilot proving grounds, which I of course did to near completion on X and T in order to... um.. have bragging rights or something?

Wouldn't it be awesome to take a CW Y-wing and blow its shit up until all that was left was the internal hull?
Oh man.. V-wings, ARC-130's, Aethersprites... Say what you will about the prequels, they had some amazing vehicle designs. And even better if they just went all the fuck out and included shit from all eras.
I'd love to take a Fury-class, escorted by some predators, up against a Pellaeon SD or two, providing cover for the Mynock or something insane like that.

Actually, on second thought, you know what I really want in one of these games?
...A fucking accurate A-wing! That means autotracking turrets, damnit!
The A wing's lasers are articulated and have a small firing arc. It is how it is supposed to take advantage of its speed, becase accuracy isn't as important. So why does no game put that in? If Halo can have auto-aim, then a space sim certainly should if the ship was designed with it in mind...
It kind of shocks me that this was never in any of the Rogue Squadron games, for the record.

Hey, remember when they announced a new Wing Commander and people were like "yay!" which very quickly turned into when they read a little further and saw it was Wing Commander Arena?
This better be true. Oh please, please. The TIE Fighter games were my favorite Space Sims. While I enjoyed the latest versions of the X-Wing series of games with their improved graphics, the gameplay and PLOT of the TIE Fighter games was SOOO much better.
TIE Defenders were so overpowered...and I didn't care. Dump the ION cannons into your accelleration and just GO FULL FUCKING THROTTLE. Not even an A-Wing with it's Rebel scum could keep up.
So many good memories.
While I expect they will do an X-Wing game, I can dream of a new TIE game...set inside the cockpit instead of that 3rd person Rogue Squadron style.

is just horrible, however.
I never played the originals. Bring on the remakes!
...and then promptly explode when an enemy looks at them wrong.

I knew I kept my CH Flightstick around for over a decade for a reason. Now I have to figure out how to make a 15 pin joystick work in Windows 7.
They're so sleek
i would even upgrade my pc if it doesnt come out on consoles. and i resist upgrading my pc like nobody else.
Also, obligatory if this is true I will splooge my pants.
Clearly, you haven't read the mechwarrior thread yet. :winky:
But seriously, PCs are probably powerful enough to do the battle of endor justice now

...he said and posted a pic of a ship with shields.
Well the ships you posted had engines capable of thrust and maneuvering.
The fucking scope on that thing is so terrible. It's like you're blind half the time.
There's a reason why only bandits and thieves used it after the B-Wing hit mass production.
Let 'em eat fucking pineapples!
Wait a sec.
You actually flew it without turning off the cockpit graphics?
And blind. But mostly like I was in a cockpit.
Odds of this appearing in a Star Wars game are slim to none, of course, but I can dream.
I dunno, I think there are a couple fighters that can give that a run for it's money:
[tiny]couldn't find a good in-game pic of the IRD[/tiny]
I don't miss being killed with one concussion missile, though.
So much hate for A Wings.
I was just thinking about how much I wanted a new X-wing game.
Also: did you know they actually made toys of the TIE Defender? I am absolutely pissed that I was not aware of this.
Aren't those generally called "Uglies"? Or did this particular scrap-yard kit-bash have a specific name?
Speak of, we need some uglies.
I'd totally fly this [tiny](to my inevitable fiery doom)[/tiny].
Y-Wing more like "Y am I not in an X"-wing m i rite
That was my exact reaction.

Good times.
It..wanted the thrill of being a target's nose cone?
Until I started playing online and people demonstrated to me that the Tie/Int is completely superior.
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
