So, my wife's grand mother has died after essentially three weeks of being without a feeding tube and two weeks of no fluid due to her deteriorating body not being able to take it, so it was a tragic and drama filled death. She was unable to see any of it since she's pregnant. Not to mention that her mother was the one who had to deal with the family drama and such.
Add on the fact that we've discovered our son has a birth defect which may be result in him being born with a single working kdiney and needing an operation to have it removed shortly after birth.
My wife and her mother are both stressed and depressed.
The idea here is to post movies which are somewhat garaunteed to make you laugh your ass off...
For example:
Pinapple Express
Bolt (Yeah, it's kind of sad, but still funny)
Paul Blart Mall Cop
Superbad
SuperTroopers
Hot Fuzz
Shaun of the Dead
Harold and Kumar
Blazzing Saddles
Tropic Thunder
Zoolander
etc, etc
Anything that will make you laugh somewhat histarically...
Spaceballs is a classic.
Ace Ventura was pretty great also.
Half Baked is awesome, though I don't know if it's restricted to people who've smoked pot.
Anchorman..
Though really no comedy movie can compare to great standup comedy in terms of continuous laughter. Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Louis CK (actually cried laughing at his deer bit), and Nick Swardson all have great standup specials.
When my dad died I watched every Police Academy and ate tons of swiss cake rolls. I felt better but I gained like 10 pounds. So sprinkle some nice long walks into those movie marathon breaks.
I'm sorry for your loss and such, but Paul Blart? Really?
I think Role Models and I love you Man are coming out pretty soon, those are pretty funny. If you can make it out to theater, Hangover is great, and so is Funny People.
The hangover.
Big nothing. (kind of comedy kind of not)
The recent Pink panther 1 movie, I loved this movie so much never stopped laughing.
Jack ass is great for all occasions. Mindless teenagers hurting themselves are always fun.
TV shows
Arrested Development
Pushing Daisies
Psych
Dr. Who
Chuck
If I had to recommend just one thing to raise your spirits it'd be pushing daisies. After every episode I'm generally smiling like a baby and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Arrested development has some of the funniest non stop jokes of any series I've ever seen. There's litterally no serious moment in it and it's a favorite of mine to play when someone just wants to laugh.

Every man is wise when attacked by a mad dog; fewer when pursued by a mad woman; only the wisest survive when attacked by a mad notion.
i just watched Me Myself and Irene today for the Nth time, so I suggest that, and pretty much anything Jim Carrey.
Bad Santa is also great, however there is a scene where an old woman appears to pass away, but she ended up just being asleep, she doesn't die in the movie.
Skip Jackass. Find yourself a copy of CKY2K (Camp Kill Yourself 2000!) Jackass before it was Jackass. Crazy (but rather sane compared to Jackass) and less penis-centric (but still rather crude). The whole thing was without major funding, so no polish, no crazy edits etc. I will always remember when they decided to rent a car with an agency that offered "no-questions-asked" insurance. They tried lighting the radio on fire.

I also wanted to suggest taking careful stock of movie content so as not to hit too close to home. The movie should probably not contain
a) an old lady dying hilariously
b) a disabled person being ridiculed or hurt hilariously

Same people, but on modern videos. I've loved almost every one I've watched.
Bad Santa is also great, however there is a scene where an old woman appears to pass away, but she ended up just being asleep, she doesn't die in the movie.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
Since people are suggesting TV Shows -
Penn and Teller's : Bullshit!
Steam | Live
The History of the World Part 1
Gross Point Blanke
Brewster's Millions
Galaxy Quest
Spaceballs
Ghostbusters
The Hangover
I nearly pissed myself the whole movie. And you have to watch the end credits
Completely clean, but I find it hilarious!
I'm sorry to hear about your struggles, and wish you luck with the new baby. Hope everything turns out alright!
Also, UHF (Weird Al's movie) is freaking hilarious, if you find his style of comedy appealing.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Monty Python's Life of Brian
Others:
Annie Hall
The Big Lebowski
Dead Alive / Braindead (pretty funny zombie comedy)
Evil Dead III: Army of Darkness
The Hebrew Hammer
The Pink Panther series (the old ones)
The Jerk
TV:
Futurama (required mentioning)
Clone High (only 1 season)
Fawlty Towters
Come on.
