I think she means you get endurance as your background skill.

I am okay with you using that portrait for combat.

You can also assume that ______ has no valuables on her other than the orb, which I should have detailed a bit. Here is her sheet : http://4e.orokos.com/sheets/1023
I am not sure if infidel's sheets are showing powers yet, but I don't see them listed. I also made the small rewrite that her "spellbook" is just another extension of her memory, being nearly unmeasurable in age. I think that's noted in the application.

    Looking forward to this :)

When you say "everyone has Endurance as a trained skill" does that mean on top of our other skills ? Or must I use one of my skill slots for it ?

On top of, which is a change from the usual backgrounds I realize.

Oh, I will need to train an additional skill, but here is Eden's character sheet for now: http://4e.orokos.com/sheets/1028

Using the picture I posted for combat sounds good to me.

Updated the sheet with another skill.

Naturally you can use the given picture for a token. It's such a nice picture.

Horis stopped at his favorite bend in the long tunnel to the surface world from the hearth of his kin. A low, smooth boulder made a particularly nice bench. The stone itself was warm, for a chimney chute from a forge, far below, passed behind the passage wall on its own silent journey to the surface.

Resting on the bench, Horis drew long and slow on his pipe. It was comforting to feel heat in the All-Father's bones. Horis could accept that there would be many hard and cold days ahead, but he also enjoyed comfort when it was offered to him.

After a silent prayer of thanks, Horis left a rough copy of the Grimknuckle mark on the bench with a small iron chisel. He may not return this way soon, and he wanted to leave something of himself here, at a place where he always found shelter.

Horis tapped out of his pipe, adjusted his pack, and continued on his journey.

Totally fine with that portrait being used as a token. I think I need to adjust my character sheet as well. I'll have it hosted up somewhere else either tonight or tomorrow morning (having people over tonight, so I need to get cleaning and then hosting).

While people are sorting their stuff out, I'll sleep on the opening post a bit.

Since there was a bit of confusion: for the paragraph I asked for, I was looking for something like what Rainfall posted for Dara, a look that I can flip the perspective on and use as the introduction for your character in the opening narration. If you don't want to work towards that, that's fine - I'll fix something myself.

I need to change it to reflect the background skill still. I'll do that on my lunch today.

A carved wooden trinket seems the most appropriate way for Eden to carry her leftover starting gold. Is this more what you are looking for in terms of introduction?

Eden stands at the edge of the woods where the North Road enter her village. She clutches the edge of her cloak and pulls it more tightly around herself as she stands very still and listens to the comforting noise of snow falling through tree branches. She looks around warily to see if anyone is around before she pulls out a small and intricately carved piece of wood. She clutches it tightly in one hand and closes her eyes to fully feel the spirit of the griffon inside of her and listen to any insight it may impart.

Actually, that was a trick. My original post had a picture linked due to a copy/paste mistake.

I'll come up with something tonight, when I am reunited with my book...

Some notes since people always get all worked up about this stuff.

-Someone is carrying a torch. No, it doesn't have to be you. No, there's no prescribed you waiting by the road. Someone was there, someone has a torch, just go with it.
-Note the total lack of any talk about Invisible Castle in the OP. If it goes down, find something else and keep playing. I trust you, not an audit with a dice-roller form on the front.

Just realized I forgot to have my little non-money items. I'll add them to my sheet, but I think they'll be small carved pieces of obsidian with some minor religious significance--the frozen blood of the All-Father.

How big is Everwood? Is it safe to assume that the three of us from the village have seen each other around?

If you all want to be from Everwood, that's fine - that would be you, Eden, and Soil-Tiller. I read another village into your backgrounds for some reason.

Yeah, I figured I'd be known by sight to any villagers, at least. I mean children probably come gawk at me and stuff (the brave ones throw snowballs)

I figure Tharia probably lives a way out of the village, kind of a reclusive fortune-teller image thing going, even though in person she's incredibly approachable, friendly, and forthgoing. Recognizable by the others from the village, but not necessarily so.

I'm still having trouble deciding what my item of value will be.

That's the sort of stuff you generally ask in here, zenpotato. An active rolled check would be an attempt to look beyond the storm, so to speak, while your passive perception would be just things you'd notice passively (obviously.) Does that make sense?

No, no, it's fine to roll in there. Just questions and chatter go in here. The way I think of it is that the IC thread should be a readable transcription of play in the third person; in spoilers you get the actual rules underpinnings, and anything that isn't directly related folds back in here.

"Spam", really discussion, is why this thread is here.

    Is combat inevitable?

If so I would be happy to just get started. If not I wouldn't continuing with the narration to see if we avoid it.

If combat is inevitable, I'm all for starting it up. If we have a chance of avoiding it... well, we're not really doing anything to avoid it at the moment. I think we'll probably get some decent RPing in during a surprise combat like this.
