These Speakers Need Power

LokialeLokiale \o/Registered User regular
I have no idea how plausible this question is but after hopeless searching on the internet I might as well do the unthinkable and ask a forum that probably knows the answer.

I have a set of speakers that were given to me by my folks because they didn't need them the only problem is that while all the cords are there the ac adaptor is gone. So my question is this: Is there a generic adaptor that I can use for these speakers or am I just out of luck and could have only used the specific adaptor that came with the speaker? (Which Sony doesn't provide anymore best of my searching could tell me.)

Speaker info:
240x180_119085.jpg
Sony Vaio Speakers Model PCVA-SP4
All wires present and accounted for, even the wire that once lead to the accursed forever lost adaptor...
On the back of the speaker it says DC IN : 12V

I really like these speakers and I remember them working really well before. They're still in really nice condition so I hope I can get good news from y'all.

Radio Shack may have an adapter that will work. Or you can buy a kit that includes an AC/DC converter type wall wart and comes with a bunch of different connectors. But honestly, for what those cost, you are better off tossing the speakers in the trash and just buying new ones.

Looks like the 12VDC adapter will run you $26, assuming that's enough amps to drive the speakers, and they have a plug that will fit your speakers.

For the same price or just a bit more, new speakers:

Final option would be to write down the info and try to find out the plug type, then hit up Goodwill or pawn shop see if they have a matching adapter.

This is what I would do. All adapters will have the voltage and amperage they source on them somewhere, and you can get a good price there.

You're probably right about just getting some new speakers. Especially if there's good ones at that price.

Later in the week I'll try hitting up the goodwill anyways, never know what you can find sometimes.

    Thanks travathian and CmdPrompt!
