Shiny spot on keyboard

My old HP laptop developed a shiny spot on its space bar, as if the paint smoothed. It just looked like a grease spot that couldn't be wiped away. I recently (2 or 3 weeks ago) got a Macbook Pro and the same thing has already started, in the exact same spot on the keyboard. Looking at the way I type its right where I hit the spacebar with my finger. What is this? Is there a way to stop it?

as far as I know it's just the top layer of whatever coating makes the keyboard matte wearing off and it's fucking permanent and happens to every keyboard ever, and eventually your mouse too.

It's just wearing away of the keys from use.

It's possible to replace a laptop keyboard (cost me $30 for an old Dell) in addition to a regular one, if it really bothers you. I'm not aware of any ways to fix the wear, however.

Okay, I figured it was probably permanent and natural, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't some uber-greasy freak whose fingers permanently shine things up.
