Waterproofing a video camera and camera software upload problem

So I picked up a camcorder a couple of weeks ago; it's a Samsung HMX-H100N with HD capabilities. It's a decent camera, and save for the fact that there's no night vision enhancement capabilities, i'm quite pleased with it.

Something I wondered was if there was any way to make this thing resistant to water, whether it's with a case or through other means. I'm going on a trip to the Comal river this weekend with a few buddies and i'd like to record us goofing off and having a good time while drifting down. I've seen people do it loads of times before, so I assumed that it was something that could be done. However, when I stopped by a local Best Buy one of the employees (rather rudely) told me that it was an impossibility, and that there was no way that camera was going to be able to travel down that river.

Now i'm not stupid; i'm not going to take something that pricey down a body of water unless i'm damn sure I can protect it fully. At the same time i've seen dozens of people pulling these things out to catch a group footage swipe, or carrying the thing down some rapids/chutes.

Is there any way I could carry and record with my video camera while I travel down this river, or should I just up and abandon the idea entirely? And if there is a way, what would you recommend that I purchase to protect said camera?

This seems like a silly thing to make a thread for, but i'm just curious as to how to go about this situation.

EDIT: Looks like I ran into another camera problem, but this time it's technical-related. I was going to post this in Moe's tavern, but since I already made a topic and this didn't seem enough to warrant another one, i'll post it in here. This of this as a second, less-important problem compared to the OP.

So I decided to save the videos from my camera to my PC. All you have to do is hook it up via USB cable, install the software and everything works out, right?

Not this time.

Every time (EVERY time!) I open this damn program, I get hit with the same generic windows vista message:

0iPZq.jpg

I have no idea what is causing this to happen. I've uninstalled/reinstalled this thing half a dozen times out of sheer desperation, but so far no dice. The manual is completely useless on this sort of thing, and I can't find a forum or a help center that would address this issue.

Perhaps another program is conflicting with it? The only thing I can think of that would be causing this problem is the program that I had to install for my hand held camera, entitled FinePixViewer. When I first plugged in the camera it tried to copy the photos I had stored on the video one, but not the actual videos. Other than that, nothing else should be causing this.

I'm just a bit frustrated I guess? Regardless, if anyone could shed some light on this i'd really appreciate it.

There are bags that I've seen cameras in during wet situations. No idea what they're called. A local camera store would point you in the right direction.

Get one of those vacuum-sealer thingies and seal it in a bag, maybe?
