Well they just have to make it thirteen months to get their money's worth.

Yeah, and it's worth keeping in mind that even failed MMO's like Tabula Rasa, Auto Assault and Hellgate London (although that was more like Guild Wars with a monthly fee tacked on for no particular reason) tend to last longer than 13 months.

Didn't the Matrix Online shut down just a couple months ago? I can't understand why anyone would think this game will shut its servers down anytime soon.

I don't think it will shut down it's servers. I mean hell, AoC is still going. But if it ends up not doing well, the community might slow down so much that people would want to leave, but can't because they've already paid for it, and it would be a waste of money.

I don't think I'll ever get bored of this game as long as they add content at regular intervals. What has me playing this over other MMO's is the hero creator and the way it controls. Playing with a controller makes it feel like I'm playing a fast paced action game, especially with auto attack turned off. This is what I wanted from MMO's. No more auto attacks. No more queuing up skills.

Champions at least is only running one server, so regardless of how many people stick around or not, the community won't get fractured over many servers that end up under populated and cause even more people to leave before mergers happen.

I was thinking about that the other day and how good an advantage it is, in that respect.

I didn't really understand what went into recommending my video settings. It set several things kinda low for me, which I thought was lame.

The first thing I do when I get into any new game is crank up the video settings to max. That's what I did with this game, and it runs smooth like glass.

Then I turned down the bloom when it nearly blinded me.

What system are you on that it runs smooth as glass at max settings? It runs smooth like chunky peanut butter (aka not at all) for me and I have a pretty beefed out system.

Mine's a home-built system. Has a 2.13 Core2Duo (OC'd to 3ghz), 2gig RAM and a Nvidia GTX 260 video card. Also running Windows XP because Vista is ass.

I think the video card is probably the most contributing source of how well games such as this run for me.

Yah, my system is beefier than yours, and this game runs like trash. Q9550 2.83ghz Core 2 Quad, 8GB of high performance RAM and an Nvidia GTX 260 216 core. Supposedly this game is CPU bound, not GPU bound, so in that case my system should shine when set next to yours, but nope.

I am running Vista 64, but the days of "Vista being slow as shit" have been gone since the first service pack, games run great on Vista now. Maybe Champions just runs like trash on it, or maybe it's a video card driver issue (though I'm running the latest drivers, so who knows).

The game runs okay for me with everything at 100% without anti-aliasing, with dynamic lighting, and anisotropic filtering set to 6x or something. It was really chugging earlier today but it was "playable".

    Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz
    4GB DDR2 1066 RAM
    GeForce 8800GT 512MB RAM

I'd like to get a GeForce GTX 260 Core 216, though.

Edit: Well do keep in mind, in the case that the game is dependent on CPU, that the game won't be utilizing all four cores. In fact you're lucky if it utilizes two cores. His CPU would then have the advantage because of the higher clockrate.

As an aside, I'm running Windows 7 x64 with the latest video drivers and DirectX11 installed.

I have very few performance issues with this game, for some reason I had some stuttering in the desert and canada crisis zones and when many people are firing powers off at once like when fighting mega Destroids I have to turn it down from everything at max or it becomes unplayable, otherwise everything is golden.

I don't know.. my buddy runs Vista 64 on his system, and for awhile he tried to tell me how great it was.

But since then I've had to hear him complain about how many problems he has with it, when trying to get various games running.

I have XP and never have any problems ever.

    Because Vista = Ass.

Yes they do. Get the aoe option for your End builder and it gives you an aoe when you use sonic device. Then get the aoe for sonic device as well and it echoes and you get multiple stacking aoes.

And that is why I like Vista (other than the fact that since I got it 7 months ago, I've had no issues). I have 8gig of RAM in my system, which XP can't do. Assuming that I don't have a POS video card (which I don't), I can set any game to max and have it run just not.

With CO, though, I turned a lot of things down, just because I didn't like the look. Comic book inking...no thanks.

I'll post my specs once i get home. I'm running 64 bit as well, and I haven't had any of the issues that you have described. I'm pretty sure I'm running a Nvidia GTX280 with 1gig onboard, but I'm not 100% sure on that model number. Also, I can't remember my CPU specs.

To be honest there shouldn't be much of a difference between the two processors, and then there's the extra RAM. Champions does perform wildly different from system to system based on what I've read in these threads.

I think it's actually over-clocked to 3.2ghz, but I am not at home so can't check for sure.

It was the reason I bought the cpu/board combo I did, as I recall... had lots of people giving good reviews on how well they over-clocked.

I've thought about buying a couple more gigs of RAM (XP should be able to recognize around 3.5gb), but I haven't needed to so have been holding out to see how Windows 7 goes.

And damn, still can't log in. :(

Very strange, my system is almost a mirror of yours (except for the GTX 280 vs. GTX 260 216 core, which is a difference, but shouldn't be the difference between smooth as butter and smooth as chunky peanut butter), and it runs choppy as hell for me.

What version of nvidias drivers are you running? I know you're not at home, so you can't tell right now, but if you find out later and feel like expending the energy, if you could PM me your driver version, that would rock.

Well I have been waffling all week on what I would do.

On the one hand I was thinking of not getting it at all. There were a few things that disturbed me, but beyond that I didn't know if it made sense for me to devote the time to the game and that I might not play at all.

On the other hand I was considering the lifetime membership, and for a while the 6 month plan.

This morning I did an evaluation of all factors, my enjoyment and interest in the game, my financial situation, what I need to be spending time on in my life and I am pretty sure I am going to get the lifetime membership.

I already have a lifetime membership in LOTRO and I have never regretted it, even though I stopped playing that regularly after the first 6 months or so. I realize in my life how many times I have reactivated a game just to try it out again and spend $10-$15 and then played for a couple days, a week whatever and still paid that full price. I like being able to go back whenever I want.

On top of that, if they introduce anniversary type awards, I will always be assured of getting them forever.

I might stop playing in 3 months or 6 months or whenever, but I can always come back. If I get the 6 month plan, I will feel pressure to play for 6 months.

Plus I will just consider it a pre-reward for myself for work to be done. I have my own business and I have found that buying things for myself that puts me on the hook to earn them works very well as a motivational tool. So shall this. Although not really on the same level of some of the other things, the same principle applies.

I really appreciate the variety of characters. I really enjoyed COH when I played it, but there was no loot when I played and that was why I stopped playing. Seems like i got a good combo of things I like here and playing with the 360 controller has made the game absolutely wonderful.

It really depends on what the idea of your character is and what powers you use/how you use them. I imagine the circles are good for ranged characters, but melee will probably be moving around a lot and thus less useful.

If your character doesn't have an energy form, maybe grab one of them that looks appealing? Maybe a pet?

I find it more helpful when I'm thinking up character ideas to pick out at least two frameworks that fit your character idea in general, then cherry pick a couple at most from other sets that I can tie in some how.

I believe there will always be the option, just that after Sept. 1st the price will go up, but I don't think there has been any statement about how much.

Heres a question for people who have subscribed: Have you been charged yet, or will you be charged at the end of the first month?

If I have another month, I can put together the moneys.

I'll definately send you a message as soon as I get home with driver versions. If you want, I'll take a look at my CO current graphics settings as well and toss them your way. Maybe I disabled something that I don't remember that was the root of the problem.

Either way, you'll get a PM around 5PM CST

With the lifetime sub it charged me when I bought it. Not sure about the 6 month. If you don't want the special deals you can certainly play for the free month before paying anything.

The 6 month deal charges when you buy it too.
