    Very nice vid Sakeido.

We should play some matches some time. I'd like to learn some of your Abel shenanigans.

Here's a question for ya though (or anyone who has the answer). What's the difference between using light punch, medium punch, or fierce punch while doing Abel's Super?

    light punch - hit invincibility
    medium punch - throw invincibility
    fierce punch - projectile invincibility

so you have to guess right in order for it to work best

There are different versions of Supers?

Is this Abel-exclusive or do other characters have options too?

I've been playing this game since it came out and I'm still discovering things I did not know.

as far as I know Abel's is the only super with totally different invincibility on each button press, but a lot of characters have different versions of their super. Ryu's go different speeds, his jab super is really slow, fierce really fast. Ken's jab super starts up in 2 frames instead of 3. Guile's is the same way too I think.

FP never got me through a projectile. Is the invincibility on startup or active frames?

You have to be basically right in their face for the fierce version to work, like if an Akuma does a shaku hadouken point blank for some reason. Its range really sucks.

Thanks. I never knew which button to press. It seemed my Super would ALWAYS get stuffed by just about anything.
The devil helps them flowchart harder, stronger, faster. :P

What the hell can you do against Abel's LK wheel kick? I played someone last night, and they were more than happy to just use that non-stop. It might've been lag, but it's not really punishable is it? Or maybe I just suck balls. :(

Wheel Kick is actually pretty punishable. In fact, it's unsafe if they hit you with anything beside the tip of his heel.

(Those in the know, feel free to correct me)
For example, if Abel does a Wheel Kick point blank and he hits you with his butt, i'm pretty sure you can reversal Shoryuken before he gets a chance to fullly recover.

Shoryukens can beat it cleanly or at least trade.
I know El.Fuerte's Anti-Air can beat it cleanly or at least trade.

Which character are you using? I'm pretty sure they have something that can beat Wheel Kick.

Maybe if they would let me connect my 360 Controller, i would actually attempt playing in a Tournament.

You can use my arcade stick if you'd like.

And there will be a PS3 controller there most likely.

You should just come for the casuals, and to watch the matches, and to meet some really good players. And to eat some really good food.

Sabyul is Damdai comming up again? I'd love to play him and his Boxer buddy again.

I love it when the Abel matchup thread says that everything Gief does loses to meaty TT.

As if it were that simple.

Edit: Just got beasted by another Gief. Fuck him. No really, fuck Gief. I would pay $$ for a video of Shiro playing against a good Gief so I could learn something.

I got some vids for you. I was playing tonight, I will show you what's up against Gief. Although honestly, this guy was better than most Giefs, which actually makes him easier to play against
Just testing out my cheap little recorder setup too... so you'll have to let me know how the picture qual is. I'll upload em tonight? maybe.

looks like shit right now! Hopefully it gets better, this vid was super sharp on my comp.. :( maybe need to wait for the HQ version to pop up. I have a vid of this guy smoking me too, so you can see what not to do as well..
    /snipped video

Thanks, great vid. That really does give me ideas. Zone him with wheel kick, and sweep when he expects the wheel kick again and blocks high. Jump away/backdash a lot.

I have to say, I'm amazed you were able to cross him up, everytime I attempt a x-up on a knockdown I end up eating a lariat. Have to work on my timing, I guess.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

I was using Sakura. Guy was pretty good about his spacing and would usually just wheel kick from a range where if I blocked it would be the tip of his heel. And if I got in, he would just jump/roll away. This is the LK version of the kick BTW. It's probably something as simple as SRK or tatsu to trade/counter. It was just frustrating because one round I had him down to like 5% health and I had a sizable lead and he just zoned me the hell out with the LK kick and I barely squeaked by with chip EX shouken damage.

He can only roll forward, so be ready to throw him when he does. Abel gets mad when you throw him out of roll.

He actually would have done a lot better if he just mashed lariat and SPD like most Giefs.. I was trying a lot of combos and stuff that weren't exactly safe. Another thing I was doing was starting a link combo and then jumping away so I couldn't get hit by a crouching jab or SPD.. thne eventually I'd mix it up and throw in a tornado throw

AUMNI! I should check this out, seeing as it being my first tournament, how bad am I going to get my ass kicked?

I mean I know you're real good, there must be at least 3-5 other dudes that are just as good, so yea...

I'm looking to go and have a good time first and foremost, but getting ripped to shreds within the first round isn't what I'm looking for, but hey that's how you get better.

You've played against me, do I even have a chance?

Also, this is Saturday tomorrow, not Friday tonight?

So inspired by this thread, I played Dan in Ranked today, where I don't really have any points, and despite losing a lot was having a whale of a time.

Then I won a match by cancelling out of his Legendary Taunt into his Ultra.

    Glee.

You don't go to these things to win. Especiallly your first time.

Chances are you won't win a single tournament match. It happens to everyone.

But you'll get sooooo much experience it's ridiculous.

    It's Saturday.

And you'll be playing lots of casuals with me and other guys. I'm getting there around 11.

All the people I play with there regularly are better than me from a small to quite large margin.

New York guys usually come up as well and they're as good or better the toughest competition out there.

So come for the food, meet some good players, and play lots of casuals. Find out what a tournament feels like. then go online and beast on people you couldn't before.

This sounds like a grand, grand time.

I'm definitely going now, sounds like a shitload of fun.

I'm torn between Gouken/Akuma to practice/main with, Dan is fun and powerful and all, same with Fei, but they are both no match for seasoned and veteran players who have more rounded players under their belts.

I'd rather stick with Gouken, but Akuma is just so nasty if you can keep the pressure on and switching your game up.

I don't expect to win or even get in the top 5, but I'd like to maybe win one. If not, no sweat, I still have booze to drink and such.

Edit: SHIT! I can't even make it I don't think, seeing as I have work till 6:30 >.< Is there anyway I can have someone sign me up and then I can showup for the 8PM? Man this is going to suck, I would've had a blast going early and playing.

Street Fighter IV is half off on Steam this weekend. I'd say that's not a bad deal if you're considering getting the PC version of SF4.

Damn, it looks like I'm buying the PC version.

    AWESOME.

we need more people involved in the PC community.

SF4 is one of those games I fully feel I got my $39.99 out of it when I purchased it. This game is seriously BAWS and has amazing depth and range for newbs + pros. The replayability is huge too.

Such a great game, but man can it make me rage when I make stupid mistakes against newbs.

Why is there never any cool shit like this in my area? Although, it makes me wonder how many serious SF4 players there are in Memphis. If someone organized something like this here, will they come?

Maybe if the opportunity arises, I can try to get something like this going. Finding a venue, especially a cool one like the one described above, is such a bitch in this area.

    ONE OF US.

Seriously though, do eet. Most report better connections on the PC, and a good amount of players at odd hours.

Edit: To Aumni, that tourney is PS3 only? I have a 360 Stick. /cry.

Also, I may not have the time to drive 8 hours to Chattanooga for this. I'm getting married less than three weeks after that date, and shit's getting hectic. All my free time outside of nightly SF4 is currently eaten up with wedding stuff. Still, thanks for the heads-up, I'll be sure to peruse that forum more often.
