    Pulse Audio

I must not have sacrificed enough lambs or cows at the altar to get it to work properly... But then... very few people can get it working properly if at all. Can we just move on to something else already for Linux audio??? (or maybe roll back to ALSA again)

Speaking of linux bullshit, how about anything with a broadcom chipset.

Maybe a bit too specific for this thread, but regardless, fuck broadcom.

I just sample the deli meats and cheeses throughout the day if I get hungry. It's not wrong, because we are allowed to sample them as long as we do it in the fridge away from public eyes. Boarshead makes some good stuff.

I don't know what thread you thought you were posting in, but I now envy your ability to sample meat and cheese all day long. And yes, Boarshead is good stuff.

On-topic: why can't I download a sandwich? What is this, Soviet Russia?

yaourt -Ss sandwich produces no output. I am outraged by this.

everytime I issue that command, I instinctively type "yogurt" and wonder why my delicious packages aren't being downloaded from the interwebs.

    Anything?
    $ lspci|grep Network
    06:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)

It works quite nicely, thank you.

If they can sort out the UI problems a bit more, OSS V4 can be a good contender

I used to find them a bit annoying, and my father certainly hates them. Once I spent 6 months as a cashier/everything else at a gas station/convenience store, though? I love them. I can blaze through and get myself checked out in half the time it'd take otherwise.

They're a nightmare to use at Home Depot. Part of the system is detecting that you've put the item that you just scanned into the bagging area. Problem is, many common items (such as bagged fasteners like nuts and bolts) are far too light to be detected. And bulky items (like, say, a sheet of plywood) don't fit in the bagging area at all. Which forces you to go into full manual mode and have the attendant check you out by hand, which makes the whole process take twice as long as running through a normal "manned" register.

If it was just scan-and-bag, without the weight check, I'd be in more favor of them. All the barely-functional checks to detect you're not bagging more than you scan end up making the process pretty painful.

I do have to say though, the scanners are a lot more fussy than people who scan stuff every day make it appear. There's a bit of an art to it, which means normal civilians struggle.

Does that make cashiers abnormal civilians? :P

    Yes.

There should be a super power for being able to grab an item and scan the barcode on the first swipe without looking at it. Fucking Gatorade bottles. :x

Actually, in the Russian SFSR, they had a system that send sandwiches DEMOS-operated network created by the Ministry of Press, Broadcasting and Mass Communications. Of course, it only lasted from 1986 to 1991, and was primarily available to VIPs, but you could send a sandwich almost 10,000 kilometers.
