DeLorean in 3D!

Howdy!

Here's the project I did for the end of the first semester at the Ubisoft's Campus in 3D Modeling. We just barely scratched the surface of 3D Modeling and we're getting into the meat of it in the second semester. It's a DeLorean! :P

We had to respect a budget of 2,000 polygons (triangles) for the exterior and 1,000 for the interior. We also had to use a 1024x1024 bitmap for the exterior and a seperate one for the interior. I think I used 1,950 for the exterior and about 925 for the interior. I personally think I did a pretty good job for the first REAL model I produced where I worked from A to Z on the geometry and the textures all alone. ;-)

You slap a Flux Capacitor on that baby and it'll be perfect.

Yeah, a friend at school also told me to stick a Flux Capacitor in there. No other modifications like the exhaust for the cooling system or all the cables or even the Mr. Fusion just a flying Flux Capacitor in-between the seats! :P

Well, you could always stick Marty McFly behind the wheel...

Actually I was expecting a model of you as well. High five for dyslexia!

I think if you add the flux capacitor you have to go all out, but maybe that's just me. :P

You didn't model the engine did you? I'm guessing no? You can make the doors open though, right? Please say yes!

I would like to see the tires a bit more round, but I'm guessing that's mostly because of the polygon limitations. Nice looking model!

Looks pretty good. Minor things: you might want to bring up the brightness on the pure black areas a very very small bit (front bumper, grill) and paint in some subtle highlights to get more of a sense of form. (I'm presuming at this poly count you won't have nice things like spec and normal maps and fancy rendering to take care of those highlights for you). Also, you've got the headlight texture stretching across the front bumper it looks like, might want to tweak the UV's there.

But my real crit is this:
This should be a papercraft model.

Well, we could've used Specular, Normal and Bump maps but we weren't judged on that. Yeah, I should've played with the brightness of the front grill and enlarged the orange headlight on the front bumpers. Thanks man!

my only real crit is that rather than insetting the windows, and making the back shade things as geometry, you might have done it with either a bump map or just with textures. that would save you a bunch of polys that you could have used to smooth out some of the edges (esp the wheel wells).

other than that, a much better low poly than i can do...

Yeah, the wheels take so much polys, it's criminal. I didn't want to get too deep with the 'superflus' texturing like Bumps and Specular, but I know what you're saying. Thanks! ;-)
