So iTunes has separate Dance, Electronic, Electronica, Trance, House, Techno and Trance genres
But no individual genre for Punk
And none at all for Glam, Bluegrass, Samba, or Exotica
I'm making my own categories
Neither the whole of truth nor the whole of good is revealed to any single observer, although each observer gains a partial superiority of insight from the peculiar position in which he stands. It is enough to ask of each of us that he should be faithful to his own opportunities and make the most of his own blessings, without presuming to regulate the rest of the vast field.

Post-rock as a term is, at this point, only marginally more descriptive than 'alternative.'

i think we might have proven that genres don't really work any more.
I can name more metal genres than you know exist
That's not terribly impressive. Someone who isn't into metal wouldn't realistically know about more than three or four.
That said, there are a ridiculous, one might even say stupid number of genres out there. Lemmy Kilmister has a pretty good quote out there on the subject; somebody asked him how he felt about the fact that Motorhead kind of invented speed metal, and Lemmy says something like, "What? Who fucking cares? S'all music, metal's just the next step after rock'n'roll anyway."
