Eh, I'm pretty sure everyone who posts here with some frequency has used the [CHAT] as their own personal problem dumping grounds on at least one, if not on several occasions. Shit fucking happens. I don't think its any big deal, especially when it comes to venting that shit. Its whatever works for you, dude.

This time I managed to talk about myself while staying on topic though. Awesome.

Maximum Ride is a series of five young adult science fiction/fantasy books, written by the award-winning American author James Patterson. The series chronicles the lives of six human/avian fugitives. Bred in a science lab called "The School", the Flock endured scientific experiments that rendered them 98% human and 2% avian. Through the first three books of the Maximum Ride series, the Flock spends much of their time running from human-lupine hybrids created by the School called Erasers. Book four is mainly about the flock rising against global warming, while Book 5 is about saving Dr. Martinez from a man named Mr. Chu, while battling environmental pollution. The reason for the change in style of the books is reportedly because the series is to be made up of two trilogies: The Fugitives (books 1-3) and The Protectors (books 4-6)[citation needed].

    oh wait, you said transit

I love how he thinks that making the comic FUCKHUGE makes the art better.

And he's a dickhole who thinks he's the coolest cat in town, and yet has no writing or illustration skills to back it up.

I want to try painting with Acrylics. Anyone got any recommendations for decent beginner paints? And would things like Liquitex Flowaid be helpful here? Oooh, also, and tips on a all purpose type canvass? I've seen a bunch with a different textures to them.

    I always use golden.

Also, illustration board is what I normally paint on for acrylic. I usually scan in my sketch, print it large, matte medium it on the the board and then paint on top of it.

But I don't paint anymore. Its a hassle.

I got back from BETA convention about an hour ago. The drive from San Antonio was long and boring, but i had Professor Layton to hold me over.

The art competition went iffy. They changed the rules so that you had to write your name and school name on the back instead of a assigned number. (which means the judges that come from other schools can look up their kids easier blech... Same went for the acrylics and colored pencil.) It was hard, I have to say. There were about. 10+ items to draw and we had two hours to do so. I think i did well as i had everything to scale (took me an hour that and it was the most points. scale and to be able to fit it all on paper.) I went risky though, stretching it all on paper to scale. The worst part of the whole thing was having mucus dripping out o your nose, sneezing, and coughing all over the place. My left sleeze was soaked...

I had alot of fun at the con. Was a little down when I didn't place, but oh well. I know did decent. When i get my drawing back I will show you all my crappy drawing.

Unless you're dead set on having your canvas be actual canvas, I'd suggest going with masonite board instead. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's, you can pick up a 4'x8' board of it for like $8. Cut it up into desired sizes and prep it like this: http://deadoftheday.blogspot.com/2009/08/materialsstudio-painting-part-2.html

It's a lot cheaper than canvas, and gives a more rigid, smoother surface to work on, which is nice for detail work (AFAIK all of the illustration guys down here prefer board over canvas for this reason). Unless you've got a specific reason to want a canvas texture, it's probably better to stay cheap so you can do more painting to get better starting out, rather than throw a bunch of money away.
